    Administrative Manager (Programming and Operations) - Sorensen Center for International Peace and Justice, Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute

    POSITION DETAILS

    The Sorensen Center for International Peace and Justice, founded in 2014, is named for Ted Sorensen, who served as a lawyer, writer, and close adviser to President John F. Kennedy, and who was a leading voice on diplomacy as well as both domestic and international politics. In June 2025, the Center moved from CUNY School of Law to Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College and is expanding its work to support Hunter College’s 23,000 students and collaborate with faculty in a range of disciplines, including public policy, human rights, urban studies, international studies, and pre-law.

     

    Hunter College, the largest of the senior colleges in The City University of New York system, is an anchor institution leveraging its intellectual, human, and physical capital in partnership with others to advance human understanding, spur innovation, and catalyze economic vibrancy. Roosevelt House, an integral part of Hunter College, has a three-fold mission: to educate students in public policy and human rights, to support faculty research, and to foster creative dialogue.

     

    The Sorensen Center seeks a motivated, experienced, and strategic Administrative Prg & Ops Manager who is deeply interested in issues of international peace and justice to work under the supervision of the Executive Director in managing the Center’s operations and developing and executing the Center’s programming for students, faculty, and the public. The Administrative Programming & Operations Manager will manage Center events and other programs, work closely with Hunter College students, and support the Center’s external communications and donor engagement. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented and skilled at communicating with diverse stakeholders. Prior exposure to issues of international peace and justice and experience working in higher education will be helpful.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Collaborate with the Sorensen Center Executive Director in creating and executing operational, programmatic, and strategic communications goals of the Sorensen Center, including work to:

    - Develop and manage Center programming for students, faculty, and the public, including the Center’s Fellowship Program

     

    - Represent the Center in engagements with students and student groups, including meetings with interested students and career support

     

    - Collaborate and serve as Center’s point of contact with internal and external stakeholders, coordinating with departments across Roosevelt House and Hunter College, and with representatives of government, civil society, and the private sector, to develop and manage robust and engaging programming

     

    - Execute fundraising and outreach strategies, including communications campaigns, and engage with individual and institutional donors

     

    - Conceptualize and create the Center’s web and social media strategy and content

     

    - In coordination with Roosevelt House team, manage and execute all logistical aspects of in-person and virtual event production, including scheduling, technical preparations, marketing, video and social media content output, and communications

     

    - Manage physical and electronic records related to Center operations, including contact database and donor information

     

    - Manage Center finances including budget tracking, processing financial documents, preparing financial reports, and annual budget planning

     

    - Manage work study students and Research Assistants

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree and six years related experience required.

    • Willingness to learn new systems and programs as the role may need.

    • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external audiences.

    • Ability to function independently as well as to cultivate and maintain mutually respectful, productive working relationships among members of the Roosevelt House, Hunter College, and CUNY communities (internal and external).

    • Excellent writing and editing competency.

    • Exposure and commitment to the ideals of international peace and justice.

    - Represents management in meetings and activities related to department administration.

     

    - Maintains archives, inventories, or collections of materials or records needed by the department.

     

    - Works with fund-raising, marketing, technology, and other personnel to provide information and participate in Campus or University-wide initiatives.

     

    - Collect information for, produce, and distribute department reports covering program, fiscal, and human resources issues

     

    - Independently carries out unit activities such as approvals, student interactions, and participation in campus- or university-wide committees and projects.

    Salary commensurate with education and experience, within approved range $74,249-$98,995.
