JOB SUMMARY
** This job is being posted across two skill levels (Staff & Senior). Applicants will be considered for the higher of the two levels in which they qualify. **
Acts as a company subject matter expert for substation power equipment, providing technical expertise and support for the evaluation, acceptance testing, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of substation power equipment.
Develops plans and specifications, performs analysis, and provides reports on assigned tasks involving design and construction of new facilities or operation and maintenance of existing facilities. Technically involved in the resolution of equipment and operational problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, performing design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.

• Complex responsibilities related to primary focus of job area. Uses best practices and in-depth business knowledge to solve complex problems and improve products or services. May adapt procedures, processes and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Develop equipment specifications, perform factory inspection and certification, and support equipment factory acceptance testing (FAT)
+ Developing power equipment test plans and procedures and review equipment test results to support power equipment commissioning, operations, and maintenance
+ Provide on-site and remote support to field personnel during routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment repairs. Lead and perform root cause analysis of failed in service equipment and misoperations.
+ Ensures the safe operation of power equipment by acting as the subject matter expert to interpret power equipment test results and recommend corrective actions.
+ Develops technical procedures and guidelines used by Substation Operations, Power Equipment Service Center, and contractors
+ Represents the Company interests and develops influence within the industry by participating in standards development, regulatory, and manufacturer working groups
+ Provides on-the-job training to new staff
+ Manages multiple projects and associated budgets, schedules and resources
+ Functions as quality inspector or defines quality requirements on engineering designs and projects
+ Assures that all design specifications conform to the latest national and local codes, rules and regulations
+ Reviews and critiques proposed changes to engineering standards, policies and guidelines
+ Review development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices
+ Conducts surveys to gather field data
+ Prepare and interpret schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids
+ Prepares engineering analysis for small/routine projects to include: preliminary design, calculation, life cycle cost and equipment selection
+ Assists upper level engineers as directed while developing specialized engineering skills
+ Supports company safety programs and initiatives by following all EHS and Operating procedures and adhering to established design standards.
+ All other duties as assigned
+ Works with power equipment manufacturers to identify issues and develop technical solutions related to equipment failures, defects, and operational concerns
+ Supports the installation and development of substation monitoring equipment
REQUIREMENTS
STAFF LEVEL
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or PE), And 2 years related engineering experience (which may include non-Engineer experience such as Engineering Internship, Design, Drafting, and Engineering Tech experience. This type of experience will be counted at half rate.)
SENIOR LEVEL
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or PE) And 5 years related engineering experience (at least 3 years as an Engineer and a maximum of 2 years related experience which may include non-Engineer experience such as Engineering Internship, Design, Drafting, and Engineering Tech experience. This type of experience will be counted at half rate.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience with factory acceptance testing of substation power equipment (transformers, breakers, etc)
+ Experience with commissioning of substation power equipment (transformers, breakers, etc)
+ Experience with the operation and maintenance of substation power equipment (transformers, breakers, etc)
+ Experience with in-service and off-line diagnostic testing of substation power equipment (transformers, breakers, etc) to assess equipment health.
+ Experience with Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), Sweep Frequency Analysis (SFRA), and Partial Discharge (PD) testing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
• May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.
• May require travel (including driving or international travel).
• May be required to work non-standard work schedules.
SPECIAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
• Member will not be required to drive in order to perform their job duties.

SALARY RANGE
Staff: $78,458 - $104,624
Senior: $94,848 - $126,464
