    The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) seeks an experienced and student-centered professional to serve as Director of Military and Veteran Services. This full-time position supports UMA’s Augusta and Bangor campuses as well as eight Centers statewide. This position resides on our Augusta campus.

     

    The Director will lead efforts to create a welcoming and supportive environment for students who are active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. Working collaboratively across the University, the Director will develop and coordinate programs, services and resources that strengthen recruitment, retention, and graduation of military-affiliated students.

    Serving as primary point of contact for military and veteran students, the Director will:

    + Provide academic advising, support, and advocacy.

    + Assist students in access and navigating veteran’s educational benefits.

    + Organize events and activities that honor and celebrate military service.

    + Partner with campus departments and external agencies to expand student support networks.

    Required:

    + Bachelor’s degree.

    + Two to four years’ experience working with active-duty military and veterans.

    + Basic understanding of veterans’ benefits pertaining to higher education.

    Preferred:

    + Two to four years’ relevant experience in higher education setting.

    + Earned Masters’ Degree in Adult Education, Social Work, Counseling, or other appropriate discipline.

    + Membership in community, state and/or federal organizations affecting active-duty military and veterans services.

    + Knowledge of current federal guidelines pertaining to military and student veteran educational benefits.

    Salary: The normal hiring salary range for this position is in the low to mid $60,000's and is commensurate with training, education, and experience and will take into consideration the salary of current UMS employees for transfer/promotion.
