As a Maintenance Technician, you will use your skills to support Manufacturing or Distribution Operations in repairing and maintaining material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and compressors, and other devices throughout the building. Building maintenance common to the trades may be included periodically. You will have the opportunity to install, maintain and repair conveyors, automated packaging, and distribution equipment. Supports a preventive maintenance routine.

Maintenance Technician performs an increasingly wider range of duties of a more complex nature over time, such as working in multiple maintenance trades such as hydraulics, plumbing, refrigeration, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems related to all Material Handling Equipment (MHE) which includes belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and more. Applies mechanical skills in determining work methods and procedures for producing quality product.

Requirements

Job Description:

+ Perform basic mechanical adjustments like tensioning drive belts, conveyor belts, tracking belts and chains.

+ Works safely around moving equipment and conveyors in a wet environment

+ Be proficient in the use of standard hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, bearing pullers, etc.

+ Perform building mechanical repairs such as overhead door track and panel replacement, concrete work, and chain link repairs.

+ Perform simple plumbing repairs such as unclogging drains, replace faucets, and toilet repairs. Troubleshoot simple mechanical systems such as chain drives and pumps.

+ Perform scheduled and emergency repairs on all equipment and building structures (i.e. pneumatic, electrical plumbing)

+ Replace slicer, cutter, dicer blade assemblies and perform necessary adjustments.

+ Read piping diagrams and identify the function of various components for air and water distribution systems.

+ Handle blade housing

+ Lock out/Tag out equipment as necessary

+ Safely operate shop equipment such as grinders, cut-off saws, power tools, ladders, etc.

+ Read and complete work orders, paperwork, specification books, schematics and manuals.

+ Perform preventive maintenance and other duties as assigned.

+ Troubleshoot control voltage on control panel and equipment

+ Install and program VFD’s

+ Operate packaging equipment

Basic Qualifications:

+ Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education.

+ 1 – 2 years' experience as a Maintenance Technician in a manufacturing plant or similar environment

+ Experience working in a chilled food factory or related environment is preferred

+ Good knowledge and understanding of Safe work practices common to the trades

+ Bilingual (Spanish / English) helpful

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

+ Knowledge of applying common mechanical processes, conveyer systems, procedures, and repairs commonly to food manufacturing equipment

+ Basic knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems

+ Must be able to operate powered Forklifts, Scissor Lift, and Electric Pallet Jack

+ Basic knowledge of all aspects of facility maintenance with the ability to perform minor repairs for multiple trades with competency and proficiency

+ Ability to work in a cold environment for extended periods

+ Must be able to source parts for all necessary repairs

+ Must have strong interpersonal and employee relation skills

+ Ability to read, comprehend and speak professionally with team member

Work Demands/ Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job work is primarily performed in a chilled environment or maintenance shop. Regularly required to stand, walk, squat, stoop, bend, reach, talk or hear. Required to use hands and fingers, handle, lift, feel, push or pull objects. Exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently. Often required to lift and carry 10 lbs force constantly to move objects. Exposed to chilled or warm temperatures within the operation.
