Job Description:
The Distribution Field Technician is required to report daily. This role involves conducting field inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment to compile data, prepare minor work orders, and maintain reports on distribution equipment.
Preferred Backgrounds:
Ideally, the perfect individual will be accustomed to long hours, physical work, and clock-in/clock-out environments. The Distribution Field Tech role offers a less physically demanding alternative, with better hours and outdoor work focused on visual inspections and data collection.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct visual inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment to support field data collection, minor work order preparation, and maintenance reporting.
• Measure and map out low voltage distribution (LVD) systems and identify electrical equipment on utility poles and mid-span facilities.
• Perform various field technical services, including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits.
• Collect field data using laptop computers, tablet devices, GPS units, and other electronic tools for input into database software.
• Operate specialized equipment such as height sticks and range finders to take accurate measurements on utility infrastructure.
• Develop a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), electric utility construction standards, and communication facilities such as telephone and cable systems.
• Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by project guidelines.
Essential Skills:
• Data collection and field data analysis.
• Minimum of a high school diploma; an associate's degree is preferred.
• Experience in utility locating and distribution design.
• Knowledge of overhead lines, pole analysis, and low voltage distribution systems.
• Understanding of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
• Ability to work with customers, landowners, and clientele to facilitate power utility asset replacements and upgrades.
• Experience in joint-use make-ready construction.
• Proficiency in performing design analysis and field work.
• Capability to manage tasks efficiently to ensure timely data delivery to clients.
• Work with customers, landowners, and clientele to facilitate power utility asset replacements, upgrades, and joint-use make-ready construction on time and budget.
• Performing various tasks of the job to help get data back to the client as soon as possible, such as pre-field work, Design analysis, Field work, etc.
• From pipelines to power plants, roadways to reservoirs, schoolyards to security solutions
Work Environment:
The work environment requires daily reporting to the office. After arriving at the office, employees will be assigned to a team leader who will drive them to the day's work location, typically within an hour of the office. The standard work schedule includes four 10-hour days, with the option of five 10-hour days.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
