Job Title: Lighting Controls Specialist
Job Description
As a Lighting Controls Specialist, you will play a pivotal role as a project coordinator, collaborating with both internal and external teams to ensure the success of lighting controls projects. You will serve as the technical subject matter expert on all lighting controls manufacturers, working closely with the sales staff to specify appropriate products for project drawings and generating system drawings. Additionally, you will manage factory resources to ensure projects remain on timeline and coordinate orders between customers and factories.
Responsibilities
+ Serve as a technical subject matter expert on all lighting controls manufacturers.
+ Work with outside sales staff to specify appropriate products for project drawings.
+ Generate and compile project system drawings and create Bluebeam drawings for customer approval.
+ Manage factory resources to ensure project specifications and bids stay on timeline.
+ Coordinate orders between customers and factories.
+ Read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, lighting layouts, and control risers.
+ Interface with lighting designers, architects, engineers, and electrical contractors during construction and commissioning phases.
+ Perform system upgrades, firmware updates, and maintenance on installed systems.
+ Document all system settings, programming, and wiring for turnover packages and service support.
+ Educate and train end users, facilities staff, or building owners on system operation and best practices.
+ Maintain compliance with applicable energy codes and local regulations.
+ Program control systems and user interfaces for optimal performance and user experience.
+ Troubleshoot low-voltage circuits, networked systems, and control interfaces.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD and Blue Beam.
+ Understanding of basic concepts of electricity and electrical troubleshooting.
+ Ability to read electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and similar construction documents.
+ Strong time management and prioritization skills.
+ Effective communication skills with Electrical Distributor, Electrical Contractor, Consulting Engineer.
+ Ability to read and interpret lighting layouts, control risers, wiring diagrams, and submittal packages.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 2-5 years of technical experience in an electrical, field service technician, or audio/visual or telecommunications installer role.
+ Willingness to learn basic lighting concepts and control protocols.
+ Basic understanding of Ethernet networking and network topologies.
+ Experience in telecommunications, audio/visual integration, or building automation is beneficial.
+ Familiarity with OASIS, AGI32, and/or Revit is a plus.
Work Environment
The role involves splitting time between the office and work sites, with 25-50% travel to Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington D.C. During the first six months, travel is minimal, but includes a week-long training in Chicago with expenses covered. The position is based in a small engineering firm focused on designing and commissioning control systems for buildings, primarily lighting controls. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Candidates must be comfortable working at active construction sites, moving up and down ladders, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elkridge, Maryland.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $36.06/hr.
