Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s **Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS)** Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated **Automated Design Systems (ADS) Engineer** . In this role, you’ll pair systems thinking with hands-on software and test integration to help deliver the next generation of automated driving systems for Toyota and Lexus vehicles. You’ll lead critical engineering processes that ensure our vehicles meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and innovation.
Reporting to the **Senior Engineering Manager of IVS** , the person in this role will support the department’s mission to advance mobility through cutting-edge vehicle automation and intelligent system design.
What you’ll be doing
As an ADS Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of Toyota’s automated driving development, collaborating across teams and driving system-level excellence. Success in this role means delivering robust, traceable requirements and ensuring seamless integration across software and hardware systems.
+ Own system requirements: capture, decompose, and maintain traceable, testable requirements from concept through release
+ Lead DRBFM sessions: facilitate risk analysis, translate findings into design actions, and ensure timely closure
+ Collaborate with developers: shape control and decision logic (C/C++), align interfaces, and embed safety concepts
+ Coordinate integration and verification: manage SIL/HIL/vehicle-level testing and ensure clean system-to-software integration
+ Drive action closure: maintain trackers, follow up with internal teams and suppliers, and ensure accountability
+ Serve as liaison: act as the day-to-day interface with external stakeholders and suppliers
+ Improve engineering processes: identify gaps and propose repeatable improvements to boost reliability and velocity
+ Contribute to code and reviews: participate in code reviews, create pull requests, and support CI checks tied to requirements
What you bring
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and brings a strong foundation in systems engineering and automotive technologies.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field
+ 3+ years of experience in automotive systems (ADAS/ADS, chassis, powertrain, or other safety-critical domains)
+ 3+ years managing requirements and interfaces for complex embedded/vehicle systems using tools like Jama and Jira/Azure DevOps
+ 3+ years of hands-on DRBFM leadership and follow-through
+ Strong software literacy: ability to read and collaborate on C/C++ code
+ Working knowledge of CAN/LIN/Ethernet and related tooling
+ Excellent documentation skills with attention to traceability and version control
+ Strong communication and team alignment skills across internal and external stakeholders
Added bonus if you have
+ Experience with ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), SOTIF (ISO 21448), and/or ASPICE
+ Familiarity with Jama, Polarion, Jira/Azure DevOps
+ Hands-on experience with MIL/SIL/HIL environments and CANoe/Vector toolchain
+ Scripting and analysis skills in Python and/or MATLAB/Simulink
+ Knowledge of SOME/IP, diagnostics (UDS), and OTA update concepts
+ Experience with CI/CD workflows and tools like Git, GitLab, Jenkins
