Summary You will serve as an INSULATOR LEADER in the Pipe Shop (Code 960) Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will coordinate work assuring proper inter-trade and inter-shop coordination. You will provide on the job training for workers under your leadership and correct improper insulator work methods. You will ensure safe work practices and good housekeeping while assuring timely tool, equipment, material, and procedure availability. You will keep the first line supervisor informed of job progress. You will answer questions of the supervisor on overall work operations and problems. You will ensure workers under your leadership have the necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions and tools to perform their work operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Experience utilizing information from blueprints, sketches and work documents, to plan and execute the sequence of work tasks. Experience utilizing insulator systems and equipment and applying operational theory, check-out procedures to perform insulator work. Experience working with various components, tanks, and systems associated with naval submarines and surface ships. Experience maintaining computer records of expended man hours, closing out jobs when complete. Experience preventing and/or overcoming bottlenecks, equipment and power breakdowns. Experience performing, without supervision, journeyman level insulator work. Experience mentoring and training workers under his/her leadership.
