Job Summary

Located in Brunswick, Maine, Bowdoin College boasts a student population of almost 2000. Our Dining Services Department makes everything from scratch and are consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop, and organic garden that all supply food to our two dining halls and three retail locations.

The Dining Operations Lead provides operational support for dining services at Smith Union, with a primary focus on the Bowdoin Express Convenience Store. his role also supports the Grill and Café as needed, with an emphasis on maintaining coverage and assisting in areas requiring additional support such as food prep and preparing drink orders. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to inventory management, ordering and receiving, and ensuring smooth daily operations.

Compensation:

+ The hourly rate for this position is $21.00 per hour, and the role is eligible for overtime and shift/weekend differential

+ Shift differentials include a 10% premium for 2nd shift, a 15% premium for 3rd shift, and an additional $1.00 per hour for weekend hours

+ New employees receive a $500 sign-on bonus (paid after 90 days and upon meeting eligibility requirements)

Education/Skills Requirements

+ High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or vocational/technical school degree preferred

+ Current ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment)

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)

+ Self-motivated with strong decision-making and organizational abilities

+ Effective verbal and written communication skills

+ Experience with cash registers and basic computer systems

+ Capable of working independently while contributing to a team-oriented setting in a fast-paced environment

+ Commitment to maintaining high standards of personal hygiene and cleanliness

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

+ At least 1 year of work experience in the food service, retail sales, hospitality or closely related industry

+ Prior experience working a computerized cash register system in food service highly preferred

+ Prior experience in purchasing, inventory management and receiving highly preferred

Standard Work Days and Hours

+ This is a full-time, academic year position, working 40 hours per week for 38 weeks per year (0.73 FTE ). The role includes occasional overtime, weekends, holidays, and weather emergencies, as well as coverage during major college events such as Parents Weekend, Commencement, and Reunions.

+ The regular work schedule for this position is Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
