About this Job
The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) is looking for a dedicated Coastal Resources Scientist 4 in the New Orleans Office of the Operations Division to support our mission of protecting and restoring Louisiana’s coast. The incumbent performs advanced journeyman scientific/environmental and other technical work in support of an important segment, developing and implementing scientific/technical ecosystem monitoring and management procedures of CPRA’s overall coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection program.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus two years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR
A master's degree in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus one year of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR
A Ph.D. in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Develops and implements detailed, site-specific environmental monitoring and management plans for coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection projects, including feasibility assessments, fieldwork, and technical reporting.
+ Utilizes advanced environmental data collection technologies and data management systems to analyze project effectiveness, support intergovernmental coordination, and contribute to CPRA’s long-term coastal protection strategies.
+ Assists in overseeing scientific data collection for major coastal restoration and flood protection projects, evaluates site-specific ecosystem management alternatives using technical and cost-benefit analyses, and provides expert recommendations and reviews on project strategies and documentation.
+ Provides mentorship, technical guidance, and training to lower-level Coastal Resources Scientists, ensuring quality, accuracy, and consistency of work in alignment with departmental policies and standards.
+ Represents CPRA’s Operations Division at various public and professional events, undertakes special projects as assigned, and conducts extensive in-state and occasional out-of-state travel, including challenging fieldwork.

Appointment Type: Promotional
Compensation: The bi-weekly minimum hire rate established for this position in accordance with CPRA’s Special Entrance Rate Policy is $2,192.80.

*This position will be filled by Promotion of a permanent, classified CPRA employee.
