    Senior Principal Project Manager- Innovation Excellence role is responsible to lead cross-functional lifecycle and sustaining programs that ensures business continuity, risk management and strategic transformation across the organization. This role is ideal for a seasoned leader who thrives at the intersection of engineering execution and innovation strategy, bringing business critical initiatives through disciplined program management and cross-functional collaboration.

     

    You will oversee high-impact lifecycle and sustaining initiatives in commercial products through development and implementation, partnering closely with innovation excellence team, product management, R&D, operations, quality and external partners. Your mission is to ensure innovation is not only sparked—but scaled and sustained through robust, scalable program execution.

    Engineering Project Leadership

    + Lead complex, end-to-end engineering programs with a focus on technical innovation, cross-functional integration, and execution at scale.

    + Translate innovation concepts into actionable program plans with clear scope, milestones, success metrics, and risk mitigation strategies.

    + Partner with product management in world-wide expansion of commercial products including phase-in/phase-out and end-of-life.

    + Drive alignment across engineering, product, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure successful delivery of scalable product solutions.

    Innovation Portfolio & Strategy Execution

    + Manage project prioritization and portfolio of engineering projects ensuring alignment with business priorities and strategic vision.

    + Partner with R&D, Product Management, Operations, and Quality to define and advance a pipeline of forward-looking lifecycle and quality initiatives.

    + Supports all lifecycle phases of technology projects from inception through completion.

    + Apply structured innovation frameworks like design controls and phase gate reviews to guide decision-making and product updates.

    Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

    + Establish and govern KPIs to track programs meeting business needs and ensure oversight on QMS ( e.g. CAPAs, Escalations, Audit Observations)

    + Champion process improvements to enhance agility and collaboration across global engineering, operations and quality.

    + Monitor dependencies, remove blockers, and ensure continuous delivery of value using dashboards and reporting tools

    + Lead retrospectives and knowledge-sharing processes to continuously improve innovation execution and governance.

    Cross-Functional Leadership & Communication

    + Utilizes analytics and reporting on multiple projects and creates data driven solutions for internal and external stakeholders.

    + Facilitate strong collaboration and communicate program goals, progress, risks, and results to senior leadership and technical teams with clarity and influence.

    + Guides project engineers through consultation and mentoring in techniques and established business processes.

    + Ensure timely delivery of projects while adhering to budget and resource constraints.

    + Integrates Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision making.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.

    + 10+ years of experience in program or project management within Operations, R&D, or product development environments.

    + Strong background in engineering or technology development (biomedical, mechanical, electrical, software, systems).

    + Proven experience in managing lifecycle and sustaining initiatives through development, implementation and commercialization.

    + Excellent skills in strategic planning, stakeholder communication, and risk management.

    + Proficient in program management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Office Timeline) and product development frameworks.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + 5+ years in a program management role overseeing complex, cross-functional technical projects in Medtech.

    + Experience with system integration projects with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.

    + Familiarity with agile, lean, and systems engineering methodologies.

    + PMP or similar certification preferred.

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is $137,235 - $235,750.

     

    The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401k).This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program. Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits: Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year. Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year. Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year. Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
