Leaf River Energy Center, owned and operated by NJR Midstream, a subsidiary of NJR is seeking an Operator Night Shift to operate gas handling, leaching system and auxiliary equipment at assigned facility to attain specific pressures and flow rates. Duties involve working around, maintaining, and monitoring high pressure (up to 3500 psig) natural gas and/or water/brine systems.
Major Responsibilities
• Provide night shift operator coverage following successful completion of initial training program of approximately 3 months on day shift, followed by approximately 3 months on night shift, and operator qualification.
• Starts, stops, and regulates gas handling equipment to meet required pressures and flow rates for storage operations.
• Starts, stops, and regulates leaching equipment to meet required pressures and flow rates for (SMUG) operations.
• Conducts required inspections of all operating gas handling and leaching equipment and systems during assigned shift. Reports any major malfunctions or symptoms of failure in writing. Monitors computer data on CRT display and printout as applicable.
• Accurately and legibly record all equipment operating data, and prepare required reports for submission to appropriate company personnel.
• Adjusts equipment to maintain maximum operating efficiency of gas handling and leaching facilities. Schedules and performs minor repairs as needed and coordinates major repairs or third-party inspections.
• Operates and maintains valves and valve operators of various types and sizes throughout plant and pipeline system. Responds to One Calls and conducts maintenance and inspections on pipeline facilities and other plant equipment when requested.
• Advises and assists other personnel in performing various tasks, technical and non-technical as requested.
• Briefs incoming Operator on current operating conditions, difficulties encountered, and any known unusual conditions in the performance of leaching and/or plant equipment.
• Requires spending at least 60% of work time in the field inspecting facilities and monitoring operational and construction activities.
• Successfully completes and maintains Operator Qualification training as required by Company, DOT and PHMSA regulations.
• Participates in Company sponsored technical training programs and cross-training assignments to improve knowledge and skills.
• Provides ongoing night shift coverage, with schedules ranging from Monday through Friday to 7 days on/ 7 days off shift rotations.
• Subject to call-outs as determined by Area Supervisor and may be placed "On Call". While "On Call" must remain accessible by phone or pager.
• Performs various duties to maintain the Company's buildings, facilities, equipment, and right-of¬ ways to ensure a neat and orderly appearance. Tasks may include mowing, weed trimming, cleaning compressors and building, cleaning servicing vehicles and lawn equipment, and performing janitorial maintenance of office.
• Complies with Company policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal safety and environmental regulations.
• Promotes positive relationships with customers, producers, and landowners, and cooperates with other departments.
• Keeps company property and work area clean and maintained.
Position Requirements:
• High School or GED required
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in maintaining equipment and operations relating to leaching and/or natural gas facilities preferred.
• Knowledge of Gas Pipeline Safety Rules and Regulations and OSHA Standards for General Industry and Standards for the Construction Industry.
• Knowledge of the principles of spark ignition piston type engines, internal combustion engines, and gas processing equipment.
• Knowledge of water facilities, water and disposal wells, and/or salt cavern leaching.
• Must successfully complete and maintain Operator Qualification training as required by Company, DOT and PHMSA regulations.
• Proficient in basic mathematics and legible handwriting for accurate report preparation to outside agencies and management.
• Ability to prepare written reports in a clear and concise manner.
• Basic knowledge of leaching, smugging, gas handling/processing equipment.
• Basic understanding of computers.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
• Experience in energy operations and/or gas distribution.

Job Location Type is On-site.
Compensation: Expected base pay range for this role will be $76,400 - $97,300.
Base pay is based on several factors including, experience, skills, and knowledge.
This role will be eligible to participate in an annual short term incentive program.

This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action. A DOT physical is required.
