    The Transit Police Department is one of the fastest growing law enforcement agencies in the state due the expansion of light rail and Rapid Transit Bus systems. There is an authorized strength of 171 full-time officers, 80 part-time officers, 55 community service officers and 40 administrative staff dedicated to one thing: public safety on and near our transit system.

    How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

    As anAsset Protection Specialist, you will perform the necessary duties of monitoring and maintaining the transit security systems, including card access, CCTV, lock systems, and alarm systems. You will provide technical expertise in coordinating, planning, developing and evaluating appropriate security procedures, measures, and programs aimed at asset protection for Metro Transit facilities to ensure systems are installed and functioning properly.

     

    Note: This posting will establish a six (6) month eligibility list for current and future positions.

     

    What you would do in this job

     

    + Coordinate special security system installations and manage security system repairs.

    + Collect, categorize, identify, and maintain chain of custody for evidence in criminal and internal investigations.

    + Prepare reports relating to the internal or criminal investigations. Testify in legal proceedings and criminal trials by providing expert testimony or as a witness.

    + Makes necessary card access changes to employee ID/access cards as requested by HR or Supervisory personnel.

    + Create ID cards for new employees and replacement cards for existing employees, retiree badges, and vendor badges.

    + Monitors the card access system, checks out reported problems and reports them to management staff.

    + Enter data into card access database, PeopleSoft HRMS system, and GoTo database.

    + Download video as requested and enter into evidence as required.

    + Monitor CCTV systems, check out problems and report them to management staff.

    + Work with asset protection group in designing CCTV systems.

    + Assign alarm codes and accounts to employees as requested by supervisory/management personnel.

    + Maintain an accurate database of all alarm codes including personnel and permissions assigned.

    + Monitor lock systems, troubleshoot problems, and report them to management staff as necessary.

    + Maintain a security key log for assigned keys.

    + Develop contacts with co-workers and other employees within the agency, for the purpose of giving and receiving information.

    + Performs all other duties as assigned.

     

    What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

    Any of the following combinations of experience in police work, private investigations, corrections, retail or industrial security or closely related field, and completed education in Criminal Justice, or a related field:

    + High school diploma and five (5) years of experience.

    + Associate's degree and three (3) years of experience.

    + Bachelor's degree, or higher, and one (1) year of experience.

    What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):

    + IP/Analog camera, card access, and locksmith experience

    + Experience in a law enforcement agency in transit security or asset protection

    + Certifications in Project Management Leadership: strong team management skills

    + Design experience with IP and analog camera installation

    + Experience, or familiarity, with Verint/Nextiva/ Video Management Systems

    + Experience, or familiarity, with Lenel Card Access systems

    + Experience, or familiarity, with Traka key management systems

    + Experience working with diverse populations of internal and external customers.

    License and Certifications Requirements:

    + Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per Metro Transit standards.

    What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:

    + Knowledge and experience with planning, directing, and installation and maintenance of IP Digital/analog CCTV systems (overt and convert) locking systems and key control, alarm and card access systems.

    + Knowledge of forensics, CCTV software, and VMS interface software such as Nextiva/Verint/Access Milestone etc.

    + Skilled in problem solving and deduction.

    + Ability to work effectively with people at all levels and in other units of the organization, as well as law enforcement officials and the general public.

    + Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.

    + Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

    + Expertise in various computer operating systems including Windows, Word, Adobe, Power Point Excel, MS Access etc.

    + Familiarity with Verint/Nextiva/Milestone Video Management Systems.

    + Familiarity with Lenel Card Access systems.

    What your work environment would be:

    Y ou would perform your work in a standard office setting. Work may sometimes require travel between your primary work site and other sites.

    Physical Requirements

    Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand/walk occasionally, speak, hear normal conversation and telephone ring tones, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands/arms frequently below chest height and occasionally overhead, must occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 30-50 pounds, must have adequate close vision for reading and computer work. This position may occasionally require work on some holidays, weekends, non-standard work hours and the flexibility to be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to respond immediately if needed.

Failure to be cleared by BCA will automatically nullify any job offer extended. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction, you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
