We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointment with Argonne’s Electrochemical Materials and Interfaces Group in the Materials Science Division. The purpose of this appointment is to perform experimental studies that will develop novel functionalization strategies for tethering redox-active molecules to carbon surfaces for selective, electrochemical capture of critical minerals. This position will work with a collaborative, interdisciplinary team with expertise in materials synthesis, characterization, and theoretical understanding to design and optimize functionalized electrodes for next generation capacitive deionization systems.
This position is based on a renewable yearly contract.

Position Requirements
• Considerable experience with chemical surface functionalization and synthetic organic and/or polymer chemistry is required.
• Experience with molecular and/or surface characterization techniques (e.g., NMR, Raman, FTIR, electron microscopy, XPS) is required.
• Experience with electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is desired, but not required.
• Experience working directly or collaboratively with computational methodologies for molecular design (e.g., DFT, MD, AI/ML) is desired, but not required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
• Ph.D. in an experimental discipline, such as chemistry, materials science, or a related engineering field is required.
• To be eligible, candidates must have completed their Ph.D. within the last five years and must be available to start work by the end of 2025.

The expected hiring range for this position is $70,758.00-$117,925.00.
