    Under general supervision, is responsible for performing entry-level public relations work; performs related duties as required.

     

    Examples of Work

    + Prepares and disseminates news stories, press releases, talking points, fact sheets, articles, and other publicity related materials;

    + Gathers information through research and prepares factual reports of information;

    + Assists or participates in the design of various marketing pieces such as logos, fliers, brochures, print ads, post cards, pamphlets, and programs to be used for educational or informational purposes;

    + Scans and manipulates 35mm and digital photos to be utilized for internal and external media publications;

    + Assists or participates in the development of newsletters to be read internally or externally;

    + Edits educational bulletins, pamphlets, and informational leaflets; writes news stories and articles;

    + Utilizes social media channels to disseminate information;

    + Answers letters and requests for information including public document requests on matters pertaining to the work of the department, division, agency, project, or program;

    + Prepares radio scripts and oral presentations of departmental activities and achievements;

    + Prepares reports and maintains records as required;

    + May deliver presentations before schools, civic organizations, and business and fraternal clubs;

    + May assist in the development of educational projects and participate at events by staffing displays and exhibits.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Possession of a bachelor's degree with significant coursework (sixteen (16) semester or twenty-four (24) quarter hours) in journalism, English, communications, marketing, public relations, or another closely related field.

    OR

    Possession of a bachelor's degree and one (1) year of professional experience in media, journalism, marketing, or public relations.

    Test/Job Contact Information

    The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.

     

    The examination process will consist of a Training and Experience Evaluation weighted 100%.

     

    Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

     

    All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
