The role you'll contribute:
As an Oncology Intake Advocate, you will be responsible for guiding patients through cancer center services at AdventHealth. The Oncology Intake Advocate ensures that the patient and their caregivers are able to access appropriate services in a timely manner with a high-degree of compassion and efficiency. This position is responsible for coordinating services and related appointments for all new and return patients among multiple providers. Perform insurance verification. Once patient is entered and approved for service, scan all appropriate documents into the system. Responsible to ensure that all referrals are entered into current software system after receiving intake and pulling appropriate documents from Cerner, Epic. Assist with answering incoming phone calls and distribute to the appropriate personnel. Attends meetings, including but not limited to; staff meetings, in-services, case conferences, educational classes, office meetings and/or organizational meetings. + Ensures all appropriate new patient documents are entered into the electronic medical record (EMR).
+ Complies with all department policies, procedures, practices, and standards of care.
+ Participates in orientation, in-service training, and staff meetings as scheduled.
+ Secures patient confidentiality by protecting patient information on and off duty.
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Completes related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager, or Director.
+ Assists with coordination of activities related to insurance pre-certification and authorization.
+ Connects patients with financial advocates and social workers if socioeconomic issues exist.
+ Gathers necessary demographic, insurance, and clinical information from patients and enters it into the appropriate database.
+ Seeks appropriate resources to resolve issues about the type, date, or location of patient appointments, ensuring oncology patients are scheduled within the targeted time.
+ Obtains patients authorization, requests and verifies that all medical records, pathology slides, specimens, faxes, and other necessary items for the initial visit have arrived.
+ Communicates with patients and caregivers as needed throughout the process.
Qualifications
The expertise and experience you'll need to succeed** **:
+ High School Grad or Equiv Required
+ Bachelor's Preferred
+ Work Experience Required
+ Customer service skills
+ Basic computer skills required
+ Minimum of Two years experience working in a high-volume health-care environment
+ Excellent organizational skills, well-developed written telephone and personal communication skills are required
+ Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact, excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills
+ Ability to multi-task and prioritize is crucial to suceed in this position
+ Compassionate listening skills are required for patient and family distress related to new diagnosis and issues related to course of disease
+ Records acquisition experience
+ Knowledgeable in Epic and or other Healthcare Electronic Medical Records
