Our Surgical Services team plays a critical role in ensuring excellent patient outcomes in complex surgical cases. The CVOR CSFA Tier 2 supports surgeons and the surgical team by providing safe, efficient, and skilled assistance during operative procedures. This role reports to the Nursing Care Manager of Operating Room.

Essential & valuable skills gained (in this unit or in this department):

- Hands-on experience with advanced surgical techniques including Thoracic, Vascular, and Open Heart procedures. - Knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control, and safe patient positioning. - Experience in harvesting vein conduits, providing hemostasis, suturing, and applying sterile dressings. - Critical thinking and adaptability in high-acuity surgical environments.

Essential Job Duties:

- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse and O.R. team regarding operative procedures, instruments, and plans of care. - Scrub and assist during Thoracic, Vascular, and Open Heart procedures. - Anticipate surgeon’s needs by providing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies. - Provide hemostasis and wound closure through clamping, tying, and suturing. - Harvest vein conduits as needed. - Maintain aseptic technique and patient confidentiality at all times. - Assist in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for procedures. - Clean and sterilize instruments and operating rooms between cases. - Mentor and assist new employees and students in clinical learning. - Participate in ongoing continuing education and professional development.

Qualifications:

- Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or Licensed Practical Nurse program. - Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) required. - Must be eligible to sit for certification exam within 6 months of hire. - Commitment to 15 continuing education credits annually.

Licenses / Certifications:

- Current CPR certification per hospital policy. - CST certification (required).
