Senior Data Scientist – Operations Research
The Applied AI Data Science team at Walmart is seeking a passionate and creative Senior Data Scientist with expertise in Operations Research, ML, GenAI, and Agentic AI. The major focus for this role is developing and deploying large-scale Operations Research solutions that drive transformation in Walmart business operations.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams including Operations, Product, Finance, and Engineering to solve complex business problems using cutting-edge data mining, machine learning, optimization, simulation, and advanced analytics. Your solutions will have direct strategic impact on Walmart’s store operations.
Key Responsibilities
**Lead Development of Scalable Data Science Solutions:** Build highly scalable operations models, automate data processing workflows, and oversee end-to-end data modeling pipelines from data ingestion to deployment.
**Apply Advanced Analytical Methods:** Leverage advanced statistical analysis, machine learning, simulation, Optimization, GenAI, and Agentic AI techniques to identify patterns, trends, and correlations, facilitating long-term operations design.
**Visualization & Communication:** Design and maintain dynamic dashboards and interactive visualizations to effectively communicate complex analytical findings and insights to non-technical stakeholders.
**Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Partner with business, product, finance, and engineering teams to identify high-impact optimization opportunities and provide actionable recommendations.
**Experimentation & Causal Inference:** Employ heuristic analysis, causal inference methodologies, and experimental design (A/B testing, synthetic control, difference-in-differences) to evaluate the market impact of strategic initiatives.
**Continuous Innovation:** Stay abreast of new methods, tools, and techniques in Operations Research, GenAI, and Agentic AI, applying them to solve emerging business challenges.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or PhD equivalent in Operations Research, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering (any), or a related field;
OR
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in one of the above fields with 5 years of professional analytics experience.
Required Skills & Experience
**Operations Research:** Experience developing large-scale optimization models (preferably using CPlex) and integrating OR with machine learning for operations use cases.
**Machine Learning & GenAI:** Experience with Python, Scikit-learn, and GenAI/Agentic AI frameworks for developing predictive and generative models.
**Statistical & Simulation Analysis:** Proficient in conducting statistical analysis (Python, linear regression), simulation modeling, and interpreting data-driven results.
**Collaboration & Storytelling:** Strong ability to communicate complex findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Option 1- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2- Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3 - 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
