Analysts partner with leaders and clinicians to translate data into insight, insight into action, and action into sustained results.

Job Summary
The Quality & Organizational Excellence Analyst provides analytic and project support for quality and process-improvement initiatives across UNC Health.
This role applies structured problem solving, data analysis, and process-redesign methods to enhance operations, safety, and patient experience.
The Analyst collaborates closely with leaders and teams to measure impact and embed a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Process Improvement
+ Support the design and implementation of improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methods.
+ Analyze performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
+ Assist departments in developing and tracking key performance metrics.
Measurement & Analysis
+ Conduct data collection, validation, and reporting for assigned initiatives.
+ Mastery of basic statistical concepts with working knowledge of advanced methods (e.g., regression, DOE).
+ Present data in clear, compelling formats that inform decision-making.
Collaboration & Customer Service
+ Build strong working relationships with clinical, operational, and analytical partners.
+ Facilitate meetings and support problem-solving sessions with empathy and professionalism.
+ Follow through on assignments to ensure resolution and communication of results.
Project Management
+ Coordinate tasks, timelines, and deliverables for multi-department projects.
+ Identify and escalate barriers through effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
+ Support spread and adoption of successful initiatives system-wide.
Tools, Methodologies & Technologies
+ Apply appropriate improvement and analytic tools to address business needs.
+ Maintain proficiency in UNC Health’s technology platforms and data systems.
+ Mentor others in basic use of tools and methodologies as appropriate.
Education & Experience
+ Required: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Business).
+ Preferred: Master’s degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Analytics, or related field.
+ Experience: At least one (1) year of experience in quality facilitation, project management, process improvement, or data analysis.
+ Preferred Certifications: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, CPHQ, or PMP.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with attention to detail.
+ Ability to translate complex data into clear narratives and visuals.
+ Effective communication and interpersonal skills across diverse stakeholders.
+ Familiarity with accreditation and regulatory standards (e.g., TJC, CMS).
+ Proficiency with Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.

Education Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline (or health care licensure).
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• No licensure or certification required.
• Health care licensure is required if absence of a Bachelor's degree.
Professional Experience Requirements:
• If a Bachelor's degree: One (1) year of experience in quality team facilitation, project management, process improvement or quality data analysis. Clinical Experience associated with leading quality improvement efforts may be assessed as equivalent to direct quality improvement experience both in determining minimum requirements, as well as level of experience.
• If an Associate's Degree: Five (5) years of experience in quality team facilitation, project management, process improvement or quality data analysis. Clinical Experience associated with leading quality improvement efforts may be assessed as equivalent to direct quality improvement experience both in determining minimum requirements, as well as level of experience.
• If a health care licensure: Prior experience leading advanced process improvement and quality initiatives.
