    Position Description

    The Department of Bioengineering in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) invites applications for an Associate Professor tenure-system faculty position in Bioengineering and/or Biomedical Engineering within the Health Innovations research thrust. The department seeks candidates with research expertise in Neural Engineering. Candidates from related disciplines, such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Physics, or Mathematics, whose research is relevant to Bio/Biomedical Engineering, may be considered.

     

    Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in the core biomedical engineering curriculum and in the candidate’s specialization. In addition to teaching, an active research program and service in the UT Dallas and/or professional community is expected.

     

    The position commences for the fall 2026 semester.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience: A PhD or equivalent in Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering or a related field is required prior to employment, along with a track record of productive and externally-funded research. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

     

    The Department and School

     

    The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (The Jonsson School) is home to six dynamic departments with over 250 faculty (biomedical, computer science, electrical and computer, materials science, mechanical, and systems). Close connections exist between all departments and local industry giving our students exceptional internship and employment opportunities. Currently, the school’s student enrollment is approximately 8,300. We serve as an economic engine of growth and innovation for North Texas with our focus on industry-relevant research and education. To that end, teams from our corporate-sponsored capstone program, UTDesign®, have taken top honors at national competitions in recent years, as well as founded startups.

     

    The Department of Bioengineering at UT Dallas began in 2010 and has grown to be the largest Biomedical Engineering program in North Texas. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering. The Bioengineering Department is one of the largest undergraduate programs in the US according to ASEE . The close proximity to the UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and our joint graduate program offers outstanding opportunities for collaborative research.

     

    UT Dallas is situated in Richardson, TX, one of the most attractive suburbs in the Dallas metropolitan area. The University sits in close proximity to the telecom corridor, home to several hundred high-technology companies that provide opportunities for joint university-industry collaborations.
