    Description

    The School of Engineering Medicine (EnMed) at Texas A&M University invites applications for an academic professional track (non-tenure) position at the full time, instructional assistant professor, instructional associate professor or instructional professor level depending on the qualifications, with an 11-month academic appointment. The position focuses on medicine and innovation. This individual will hold a unique dual role: delivering instruction within the medicine curriculum while also advancing student education in medical innovation and commercialization. The start date is expected in the summer of 2026.

     

    This position represents an 80% effort (0.8 FTE) appointment and is designed for an academic professional with a passion for integrating medicine, engineering, and entrepreneurship in preparing the next generation of physicianeers.

     

    In addition to instructional and educational responsibilities, candidates will be expected to contribute to curricular development and development of innovative instructional methods, participation in committees and admissions, and fostering collaboration among the three EnMed partners.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Medicine Instruction (Core Curriculum)

     

    + Develop, deliver, lead and assess instructional content in the EnMed medicine curriculum.

    + Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback to support academic progress.

    + Enhance the student learning experience by integrating innovation and engineering principles into medical coursework where relevant.

    + Collaborate with faculty colleagues to ensure alignment between medicine, engineering, and innovation instruction.

     

    Innovation Instruction & Student Support

     

    + Teach and mentor students in the frameworks, processes, and strategies of medical innovation, with emphasis on the translation of concepts into commercialization pathways.

    + Guide students through the innovation lifecycle, including need identification, prototype development, regulatory considerations, stakeholder analysis, and value assessment.

    + Advise and support student projects in innovation immersion, capstone, and independent study courses.

    + Foster professional growth by preparing students to navigate the interdisciplinary environment of healthcare innovation.

     

    Incubator Support

     

    + Provide support to EnMed’s EnGen incubator efforts, including general guidance for programming, student engagement, and fostering connections between startups and the academic community.

    + Collaborate with colleagues to align incubator activities with educational and translational goals.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

    + Terminal degree (Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and or equivalent) in a healthcare, engineering, and/or related field.

    + Demonstrated excellence in teaching, curriculum design, or mentoring in higher education.

    + At least 5 years of experience in healthcare innovation, medical technology, or translational research.

    + Strong interest in advancing innovation pedagogy and in mentoring students in an academic-medical environment.

     

    Preferred

     

    + Familiarity with the Biodesign process and medical entrepreneurship.

    + Prior experience leading academic programs or incubators.

    + Background in medtech commercialization, clinical validation, or regulatory strategy.

    + Comfort with interdisciplinary teaching and collaborative academic environments.
