    Role Overview:

    INDOT is committed to providing its seasonal engineering assistants with one of the most practical, job-relevant experiences available to help them develop their professional skills and bolster their resume. In addition, our positions are designed to allow the employee to work in a hands-on environment with current INDOT managers and leaders, allowing them to develop their communication and leadership skills. The Technical Services Section of the Fort Wayne District is responsible for system assessment, material testing, traffic engineering, planning and permitting functions for a 17 county region in northeast Indiana.

    Preferred Experience :

    + Enrolled in an ABET-accredited university's Civil Engineering or related program.

    + Considerable knowledge in the use of computers, CADD & drafting equipment;

    + Basic Knowledge of civil engineering technology;

    + Ability to understand civil engineering technology; use statistical analysis; comprehend & interpret plans & specifications to design standard plans; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; handle routine & sensitive contacts with public, government officials & property owners concerning assigned projects.

    + Detail-Oriented

    Pay Rate:

    This position pays an hourly rate of $16.24.

     

    A Day in the Life:

     

    Work could include but would not be limited to: assisting with pavement and bridge quality assessment which includes site inspection of road conditions and various bridge elements in order to recommend capital project needs, recording historical pavement data into a GIS application, traffic engineering studies including traffic capacity analysis utilizing Synchro and/or Highway Capacity Software, forensic crash investigation to determine root cause and crash trends on state routes (HAT software and Highway Safety Manual), performing site audits and inspections using various material testing procedures at stone quarries/mines, concrete beam plants, asphalt plants, etc. The successful candidate would likely be exposed to several of these functional areas based upon workload demand.

    Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

    This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
