Pump Mechanic (Days)

Job Description

Join a dynamic service and repair company specializing in pumps and rotating equipment. As a Pump Mechanic, you will work in a shop environment to recondition pumps brought in from the field, using blueprints and drawings. Your expertise in repairing, refurbishing, overhauling, and dismantling various types of pumps such as split case, inline, overhung, BB1 & BB2, horizontal, and multistage pumps will be invaluable.

Responsibilities

+ Recondition pumps based on blueprints and technical drawings.

+ Repair, refurbish, overhaul, and dismantle a variety of pumps including split case, inline, overhung, BB1 & BB2, horizontal, and multistage pumps.

+ Read and interpret blueprints with precision.

+ Utilize scales, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments effectively.

+ Perform alignments, overhauls, and mechanical repairs.

+ Conduct assembly and schematic interpretation for pumps and compressors.

Essential Skills

+ 7+ years of experience as a Pump Mechanic in a pump shop.

+ Comprehensive knowledge of vertical and horizontal pumps.

+ Proficiency in blueprint reading and mechanical alignments.

+ Experience with scales, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.

+ Ability to work with various pump types including overhung and reciprocating pumps.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with multistage or horizontal pumps.

+ Ability to balance bearings and work on seals and gaskets.

+ Manual machining experience with VTL (Vertical Turret Lathe) or HBM (Horizontal Boring Mill).

+ Proficiency in using lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, acetylene torches, and impact wrenches.

+ Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, and welding (MIG, TIG, Heliarc).

+ Tier 1, 2, 3 pump experience.

Work Environment

The work is conducted in a medium-sized, air-conditioned shop, which is currently tight on space but will be relocating to a larger facility in the near future. The team consists of dedicated manual machinists, pump mechanics, and welders working across day and night shifts. The day shift runs from Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and Saturday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with two paid breaks and an unpaid lunch. Employees can expect to work 50 to 60 hours a week, with occasional Sunday shifts offered at double time. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, Texas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
