Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.

+ Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

+ Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.

+ Collect and store specimens following established procedures.

+ Explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.

+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

+ Understand and follow all physicians' orders.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

+ Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct against scripts.

+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in blood drawing and customer service.

+ Experience with venipuncture using both straight and butterfly needles.

+ Ability to handle hard stick scenarios, particularly with transplant and cancer patients.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required.

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 1-4 years of phlebotomy experience.

Work Environment

This position is based in a large Patient Service Center (PSC) with a team of five people. The team sees between 150-160 patients daily. Work hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with a rotational schedule for Saturday. Employees will have a half-day during the week to maintain a balanced 40-hour workweek.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Springfield, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
