Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the development and launch of heavy-duty truck accessories and systems. This role focuses on the mechanical design, integration, and validation of complex accessory products, including hydraulic systems, structural components, and electrical integration, for use in commercial and vocational truck platforms. You will play a key role in delivering innovative, durable, and high-performance products tailored to customer applications and industry demands.

Responsibilities

+ Lead the mechanical design and integration of heavy truck accessory products such as hydraulic liftgates, tool storage systems, service bodies, utility cranes, winches, PTO-driven systems, and other chassis-mounted equipment.

+ Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, controls, hydraulics, and manufacturing teams to develop fully integrated solutions.

+ Own product development from concept through production launch, including prototyping, CAD design, FEA, DFM, and validation testing.

+ Design robust mechanical structures and assemblies using steel, aluminum, and composite materials for heavy-duty environments.

+ Develop and optimize hydraulic systems, including pump/motor selection, circuit design, and performance tuning.

+ Ensure seamless electrical integration of powered accessories with truck OEM or aftermarket power and control systems.

+ Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation: drawings, BOMs, engineering change orders, and test reports.

+ Support validation testing, including environmental, fatigue, load, and field testing.

+ Engage with suppliers and customers to define requirements, resolve technical challenges, and ensure product compatibility.

+ Support continuous improvement in product performance, cost, and manufacturability.

Essential Skills

+ Experience and success designing heavy-duty industrial products

+ Knowledge of design principles with 8+ years of experience, particularly related to large multicomponent assemblies

+ Engineering knowledge to evaluate test results to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications

+ Experience evaluating and solving design-related issues that arise within manufacturing and/or production assembly

+ Excellent communication skills and proven experience interacting with other groups to finalize product designs

+ Disciplined, self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of sustained and continuous effort

+ Hands-on approach and mechanical aptitude

+ Commitment to accuracy, detail, and well-thought-out designs

+ Thorough documentation habits paired with excellent organizational and management skills

+ Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced product design team

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

+ 8+ years of engineering experience

+ Proficiency in CAD software, with a strong preference for Creo

+ Background in Mechanical Engineering and New Product Development

+ Experience designing heavy-duty truck mounting assemblies is a strong plus

+ Experience doing 3D designs in Creo is a strong plus

Work Environment

This position is based in a brand new facility with a fast-paced work environment. The company embraces a 'work hard, play hard' mentality. With a total of 800 employees, you will work on an Engineering Team comprising 5-8 engineers.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mentor, Ohio.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $57.69/hr.
