Summary The primary purpose of the position is to ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics. Leads three or more GS-2005 employees in the distribution area to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and materials. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides written instructions, reference materials and supplies Conduct on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Maintain current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary. Perform daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar code equipment and following the predetermined schedule. Clean assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled. Utilize the automated point of use inventory system (Omnicell or similar), as well as the parent inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes. Validate accuracy of data in the automated system to maintain long-term stock management. Coordinate work activities to resolve operating issues pertaining to clinical and administrative supply management requirements Handle conflict and problems in dealing with customers. Work with clinical and administrative personnel regarding administrative and medical supplies. Provide customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Ensure timely and proper distribution of supplies and materials in assigned areas to include sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment. Monitor expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removing items from use required by outdates. Receive supplies including unpacking, uncrating from shipping cartons and storing items to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material. Recommend revisions in stock levels as needed and communicates concerns related to supplies, equipment, procedures, working conditions, etc. Review completed work to see that instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met. Utilize knowledge of stock rotation, hazard alerts and recalls to ensure outdated or otherwise compromised supplies and material are removed from usage area. Specialized experience includes: Distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, frequent bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). Regularly pushes loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With the assistance from other workers or weight handling equipment, will move heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. A portion of time is also spent operating ADP Equipment such as bar code scanners, computers and printers. Work Environment: Works throughout the medical center which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty and poorly lighted. Duties will subject the incumbent to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury. Will stock supplies in the primary inventory area as well as numerous secondary inventory points throughout the hospital work area, including wards, clinics, operating rooms, warehouse, and nursing areas. Will be expected to maintain a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infections pollutants while transitioning between environments. Supported units may be offsite requiting roundtrip travel time in excess of 90 minutes. Tours of duty may require afternoon, evening, and/or overnight shifts.
