SUMMARY
The Manager of Accounting is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the preparation and analysis of financial and tax reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and supporting the general operations and decision-making process. This role is critical in providing accurate and timely financial information to the Controller.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
+ Responsible for Financial Reporting including:
+ Review and serve as back-up preparer of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all business units & consolidated in accordance with GAAP
+ Lead month-end close process. Ensure proper reconciliations, accruals, allocations and adjustments are processed with an easy-to-follow audit trail.
+ Review bank and general ledger account reconciliations to ensure that all outstanding items are valid, supportable, and collectible. Ensure proper valuation of all assets and liabilities.
+ Oversee general ledger maintenance.
+ Review & analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
+ Tax Reporting
+ Oversee the preparation of Federal, State and Local tax reporting and analysis.
+ Review of Business, Professional & Occupational License Renewals.
+ Review of Business Property Tax filings & payments.
+ Review of monthly & quarterly VA Sales & Use Tax filings and payments.
+ Preparation and/or review of other regulatory filings as needed.
+ Compliance
+ Coordinate and manage external financial statement process and regulatory reviews to include workpaper preparation.
+ Ensure all financial, tax and regulatory reporting deadlines are met.
+ Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures.
+ Ensure all Accounting department taskings/duties are documented and easy to follow.
+ Respond to requests for information and various projects received from management.
+ Continue to find ways to automate and increase efficiencies between various operating systems including Accounting system, Fixed Assets, Job Costing, etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager of Accounting will supervise the members of the Accounting Team to include training and development opportunities, conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Must be knowledgeable and proficient in the financial month-end close process.
+ Knowledgeable of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and good understanding of chart of accounts and accounting systems.
+ Ability to collaborate with other departments to gather necessary information for financial analysis.
+ Must be organized and detailed-oriented.
+ Must have strong attention to detail, accuracy, good judgment, initiative, decision making and time management and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
+ Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or an equivalent of education and experience. At least 6 years work experience in accounting required. Experience with a mid-sized/regional CPA firm preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CPA a plus, not required
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, instructions and standard operating procedures. Must have strong communication skills, both oral and written.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply analytical analysis to results.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must have strong analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to solve most problems independently.
