Scope of Job
Represent the interests and priorities of the Executive Vice President ( EVP ) of Health Affairs through management and integration of the EVP’s initiatives, priorities, and objectives. Take the lead role in the management of all administrative matters, and the oversight of the implementation of projects and strategic initiatives in the Office of the EVP .
Description of Duties
+ Provides senior-level administrative oversight and executive decision-making in matters impacting the Division of Health Affairs (Division).
+ Promotes community engagement and represents the Division at local, state, national, and international levels in activities that will positively impact the reputation and influence of the division and university.
+ Manages Division communications in alignment with the University Marketing and Communications team and prepares and oversees all communications for the EVP .
+ Leads assigned support departments such as human resources, marketing, and communications which have a dotted-line reporting relationship to this position.
+ Effectively engaging all stakeholders, assists the EVP in the development and implementation of a comprehensive and integrative strategic plan for the Division in alignment with the university strategic plan and ensure these plans are implemented in the assigned areas.
+ Advises the EVP and senior leadership on matters of Division, sets priorities and executes strategy for external community engagement in alignment with Division goals, and facilitates coordination among senior leadership in achieving the strategic plan of the Division.
+ Oversees the review and update of Division policies and procedures related to the implementation of all programs and initiatives.
+ Takes part in developing and implementing long-range planning and timely and accurate reporting on issues related to the Division.
+ Creates a mechanism to foster communication, collaboration, respect, and teamwork within Division which will promote a culture of integrity and mutual respect. Evaluates and creates opportunities for performance improvement of faculty, staff, and administration as directed by the EVP . Assigns duties to faculty and staff consistent with the effective operation of the Division and in alignment with university policies and procedures.
+ Coordinates and leads projects and initiatives on behalf of the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs frequently involving other Deans, administrators, Department Chairs, and program directors.
+ Identifies appropriate external organizations that have the potential to positively impact the mission and vision of the Division and university and develops programs to connect with and engage these entities.
+ Represents the university, as appropriate and as requested by the Executive Vice President of Health Affairs when required.
+ Coordinates with Institutional Advancement on any Division-specific fundraising, development, and other related activities.
+ Works closely with university and college representatives to assist in the creation of interprofessional collaboration and approaches to teaching, learning, and research.
+ Leads the development and achievement of departmental goals in alignment with the Division and university strategic plan.
+ Supports the EVP in addressing and supporting faculty, staff, and student issues, programs, and initiatives.
+ Provides vision direction, leadership, and development opportunities for departmental staff and management of assigned departments.
+ Serves as liaison with other institutional offices and divisions regarding administrative and business processes.
+ Serves as liaison with the local community and Division stakeholders.
+ Provides employee oversight, training and management to assigned staff and leadership.
+ Leads various permanent and ad hoc committees, task forces, and teams.
+ Establishes operational policies and procedures and makes any necessary modifications.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field or completion of a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree program from an accredited University.

Five (5) years of job-related increasingly responsible experience in higher education, including experience within a health care-related environment.

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Indoor office environment; must work some evenings and/or weekends; regular travel across the Rio Grande Valley and occasional state and national travel is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with University administrators and community. Read and interpret federal, state, and local laws, directives, policies, procedures, and requests. Supervise employees effectively, conduct presentations and maintain confidentiality. Ability to manage a wide array of projects simultaneously. Ability to work independently and in setting and maintaining priorities and goals.
