    Job Overview

     

    The Senior Director, Student Formation, provides leadership and program direction on all aspects of the unifying mission, values, strategy, and program for the unit comprised of the Disability Cultural Center, LGBTQ Resource Center, Women’s Center, and other programs aimed to support a sense of belonging and identity formation for all students. The Senior Director envisions, organizes, and implements initiatives, programs, outreach campaigns, and other educational efforts to advance identity formation and a sense of belonging at Georgetown and beyond. The Senior Director supervises the Directors of the Disability Cultural Center, LGBTQ Center, and Women’s Center, along with the program and operational support staff.

     

    This position represents a leader in understanding, creating, and developing a sense of community and identity formation through integrative engagement at Georgetown University. The person in this role collaborates actively with faculty, staff, and students who lead parallel and intersecting efforts to advance identity formation and a sense of belonging. The position is designed to lead the Division of Student Affairs initiatives to integrate efforts to foster a sense of community by making sure University policies, procedures, programs, services, and teams are informed by contemporary understanding of intersectional experience and current best practices in outreach and programming.

     

    Work Interactions

     

    The Senior Director reports to the Associate Vice President in the Division of Student Affairs. The Senior Director supervises the Directors of the Disability Cultural Center, the LGBTQ Center, and the Women’s Center, the Program Coordinator, and future full- or part-time staff dedicated to managing the office suite and shared facility resources. The Senior Director interacts with many other faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and students in implementing the strategic efforts to create community among students at Georgetown University. This includes:

     

    + Considering and creating connections across the lifecycle of co-curricular initiatives, from Pre-Orientation Programs to Commencement Celebrations and alumni engagement

    + Operationalizing strategic priorities related to sense of belonging and identity formation, including priorities identified in the Division of Student Affairs Strategic Plan (2025-2028)

    + Lead the development and coordination of restorative practices, including staff and student trainings, response plans, community building efforts, and alternative resolutions to address potential harms

    + Providing leadership, vision, and direction to the Cultural Center Directors and program staff

    + Chairing, convening, and coordinating committees and committee projects

    + Supervising a team of center directors in their development, implementation, and execution of programs and services designed to build community and foster a sense of belonging among students

    + Assessing programs and services through quantitative and qualitative means, and providing leadership to assessment efforts that address intersectional identity formation

    + Managing resources and facilities, including the innovative suite of space resources in the terrace level of New South

    + Recruiting, hiring, training, educating, supervising, evaluating, and providing for the professional development of Center Directors and staff

     

    Work Mode Designation

     

    This position has been designated as In-Person. The person in this role will provide primary staff coverage at the Hilltop Campus and periodic staff coverage at the Capitol Campus.     Requirements and Qualifications

     

    Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field; Terminal Degree preferred

     

    + 8 years of work experience in a cultural center, or another department charged with fostering a sense of belonging and identity for students, particularly students historically underrepresented or excluded from higher education

    + Minimum 3 years of management experience leading teams with demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and developing staff,

    + Ability to solve complex problems by building shared solutions in the face of divergent stakeholder interests

    + Familiarity with contemporary understanding of post-secondary student formation, development, and growth, particularly with regard to intersectional identity development

    + Familiarity with issues likely to be of concern to students from historically marginalized communities

    + Familiarity and facility working within a decentralized higher education organizational context

    + Familiarity and facility working with students as an advisor, supervisor, mentor, supporter, and educator

    + Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders on a broad range of projects

    + Strong organizational skills

    + Ability to lead, manage, and support staff at all levels of career development

    + Vision, self-motivation, and enthusiasm for managing and developing a dynamic staff team

    + Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize competing initiatives in a dynamic environment

    + Understanding of the mission, vision, and context of Jesuit and Catholic higher education, particularly with regard to contextual influence on the experience of students from historically marginalized or underrepresented communities.

    Preferred qualifications:

    + Advanced or terminal degree in a discipline related to student identity development, human development or higher education

    + Experience working in a Jesuit and Catholic higher education setting

    Pay Range:

    The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

    $66,783.00 - $126,720.23

     

    Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
