Job Summary:
Reporting to the Sr. Manager, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting, the Staff Accountant will have the opportunity to work across the finance and accounting organization to help us achieve our goal of being a best-in-class external reporting group. This role will have visibility to all aspects of annual and quarterly reporting and key responsibilities will include the preparation of SEC filings and assisting with technical accounting research and documentation, special projects, and process improvement efforts. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who can multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and consistently meet deadlines.
This role will have high visibility within the finance organization including exposure to the VP, Financial Accounting and SVP, Chief Accounting Officer. This role will also work cross-functionally with other teams across the organization including Investor Relations, Legal, Human Resources, Tax, and Financial Planning and Analysis. This is an excellent role to gain exposure to a growing retail organization. This role maintains a hybrid work schedule, and candidates are expected to work from the Marlborough, MA corporate headquarters on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week.
Major Tasks, Key Roles & Responsibilities
+ Responsible for the preparation of SEC reporting documents (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, Form 4 filings) as well as completion of inputs into the annual proxy statement
+ Preparation of the quarterly financial statements and tie-out package including the consolidated balance sheet, statement of operations and comprehensive income, statement of cash flows, and statement of stockholders’ equity
+ Manage the quarterly reporting team calendar and request list while gathering support from various stakeholders across the organization and preparing/ consolidating detailed footnote support files
+ Assist in the preparation and review of the quarterly earnings release and support Investor Relations with quarterly deliverables, tie-outs, etc.
+ Assist the organization with accounting research and preparation of white papers and memos, including analysis of recently issued accounting pronouncements
+ Assist with equity incentive accounting including monthly stock-based compensation entries, coordination of the annual grant cycle with Legal and HR, and partnering with our equity plan administrator to ensure timely setup of grants, processing of vesting activity, and other transactions
+ Draft Form 4 filings for Section 16 officers and track share-based activity
+ Coordinate with external auditors to successfully support quarterly reviews and the annual audit by uploading support timely, responding to questions and inquiries, and assisting with administrative tasks and planning documents prior to the reporting period end
+ Assist in streamlining processes and contribute to continuous improvement projects while maintaining proper internal controls and providing timely support to the Internal Audit team when requested
+ Other ad hoc projects and tasks, which may include flexibility to assist with the GL monthly close, flux analysis, lease and capital transactions, or other work-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
+ CPA or CPA candidate preferred
+ 1-2 years of experience (with public accounting experience preferred)
+ Technical skills and internal controls background including knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
+ Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills. The role will require interaction with a wide range of team members, senior leaders, as well as external auditors and experts
+ Ability to think creatively, initiate new ideas or solutions, and learn new business initiatives quickly
+ Skilled at verbal and written communication
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrated flexibility to accommodate changing priorities
+ Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and Workiva preferred
+ Experience with artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, etc. preferred
+ Demonstrated ability to learn new accounting software. SAP and PowerBI/Tableau skills are a plus
This is a hybrid role. Tuesday through Thursday are in-office days at BJ's Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA and Monday and Friday are remote days.
In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $60,500.00.
