Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University ( CSU ). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary
A Vegetation Team Technical Support – Light Equipment Operator ( LEO ) and Commercial Driver position is available at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii with Colorado State University ( CSU ) and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands ( CEMML ). This position is responsible for operating dump trucks and 2000+-gallon water trucks to haul materials and equipment in support of the Army’s Integrated Training Area Management ( ITAM ) Program at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. This position will also operate light equipment to include, but not limited to: agricultural tractors, mowers, straw blowers, hydro-seeders, and skid-steers. Use of hand tools will be required to include, but not limited to: shovels, root rakes, pick axes, brush axes, and chainsaws.
Schofield Barracks was established in 1908 to provide mobile defense of Pearl Harbor and the entire island. Located 20 miles from Honolulu on the plateau or “central valley” of Oahu between the two volcanic mountains that comprise the island, the nearly 18,000-acre installation is home to the U.S. Army Garrison, Hawaii.
Work location is dependent on the needs of the partner/project/role and requires staff to be fully in-person.
Required Job Qualifications
+ A High school Diploma, GED , or equivalent
+ At least 2 years of experience in land management, vegetation management, and land restoration
+ Must have a valid and current Commercial Driver’s license Class A with tanker endorsement
+ Experience with running and maintaining:
+ Small agricultural tractors
+ Mowers
+ Skid-steers
+ Handheld power equipment (trimmers, tillers, chainsaws, etc.)
+ Manual tools (shovels, rakes, pick axes, brush axes, etc.)
+ Ability to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity)
+ Able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly without assistance
+ Proficient written English communication skills
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Prior experience supporting the Integrated Training Area Management ( ITAM ) program
+ Working knowledge and experience working with the Department of the Army or other federal land-management agencies
+ Experience with land rehabilitation, vegetation management techniques, and erosion control practices
+ Experience working on military lands
+ At least 2 years’ experience operating as commercial driver
Essential Duties
Job Duty CategoryLight equipment operation and hand tool utilization for the purpose of completing assigned LRAM project execution tasks.
Duty/Responsibility
Load and operate dump trucks for hauling aggregate. Operate dump truck and 50,000 pound trailer to transport equipment. Operate 2000+ gallon water trucks. Complete all pre-trip safety inspections. Equipment operated includes but is not limited to: agricultural tractors (with PTO driven attachments), mowers, straw blowers, hydro-seeders, and skid-steers (with and without rotary head mulching attachment), water truck and dump truck. Hand tools used, but not limited to: shovels, root rakes, pick axes, brush axes, trimmers and chainsaws. Equipment operation and hand tool utilization is for the purpose of completing LRAM projects.
