    **Location:** Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt – Nashville, TN

     

    Department: Pediatric Orthopaedics Outpatient/Ambulatory Clinic

     

    Schedule: 4x10 or 5x8 hour shifts | 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

     

    About the Role

     

    Join our close-knit Pediatric Orthopaedics team as Ortho DME Tech - Pediatrics, supporting outpatient and surgical care for children with musculoskeletal conditions. This hands-on role involves applying casts and splints, providing wound care, and assisting in both clinic and operating room settings.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Apply and remove casts, splints, and immobilization devices

    + Assist orthopaedic surgeons and residents during procedures

    + Educate patients and families on cast/splint care

    + Manage inventory and distribute supplies

    + Perform suture and staple removals

    + Travel to Murfreesboro OR and clinic, occasionally to the Hendersonville clinic

    + Support plastics and ortho teams in OR and inpatient settings as needed

    Technical Skills

    + Orthopaedics: Basic understanding and exposure

    + Cast Application & Removal: Novice-level proficiency

    + Inventory Management: Ability to manage stock and reconcile balances

    + Customer Service: Exceptional communication and patient-centered care

    Work Environment

    + Based at main Nashville campus with travel to Murfreesboro and Hendersonville

    + Collaborative, supportive, close-knit team culture

    Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent required

    + Previous pediatric care experience preferred

    + Orthopaedics experience preferred

    + Strong interest in a long-term career in pediatric healthcare and hands-on clinical support

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Assists orthopaedic surgeons and residents with preventing or correcting disorders of the locomotor structures of the body.

    + Monitors cast room area and equipment.

    + Instructs patients/families on cast/splint care.

    + Helps organize and distribute inventory of medical supplies for the Orthopaedic Clinic

    + Application and removal of all cast, splints and immobilization devices.

    + Suture and staple removals.

    TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

    + Orthopaedics (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience working with Orthopaedics.

    + Cast Application & Removal (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate cast application and removal in practical applications of moderate difficulty.

    + Inventory Management (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate Inventory Management skills in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Demonstrates basic expertise with Inventory Management tools, procedures and processes. Monitors material moved into and out of stockroom locations and reconciles inventory balances. Works with electronic catalogs.

    + Customer Service (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates an awareness of the need for good customer relations. Asks questions to identify customer's needs or expectations. Understands the need to provide ongoing dialogue with and service support to the organization's customers. Understands the distinction between direct customer and ultimate consumer. Demonstrates an orientation and sensitivity to customer service. Prohibits personal emotions from interfering and influencing customer responses.
