    About the Position

     

    Under the direction of an Advanced Practice Clinician or MD, the Medical Assistant provides safe therapeutic care for a diverse population of university-age patients in a university setting.

    Responsibilities include:

    + Phlebotomy Tasks

    + Gathering necessary supplies, assessing veins, performing venipuncture and collecting blood specimens.

    + Labeling and packaging specimens for transport.

    + Documentation of actions

    + Laboratory Testing

    + Obtaining samples via nasopharyngeal swab or throat swap

    + Performing rapid strep tests, blood glucose tests, In House Hemoglobin/Hematocrit, Mono and urine tests

    + Documentation of actions

    + Direct Patient Care

    + Assisting the physician or APC with physical examinations, techniques and procedures, and other aspects of patient care

    + Observing and recording the current systems and patient history of present illness including physical and mental conditions - noticing physical and/or behavioral changes, the effects of drugs and incidents.

    + Reconciling medications and preparing the patient and electronic health care record for the visit

    + Miscellaneous Tasks

    + Stocking and maintaining lab supply list

    + Washington and sterilizing instruments

    + Communication over phone and electronic messages

    + Other tasks as assigned

     

    This is a temporary position and will work a maximum of 1050 hours.

    Required QualificationsMust have current or be eligible for at the time of hire:

    + Medical Assistant - Certification (WA State)

    + CPR Certification

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinic or urgent care setting

    + Experience successfully obtaining samples and results for in-house tests

    + Medical Assistant Phlebotomy Certification (WA State)

    + Phlebotomy Certification

    Salary$21.69 - $28.90/hour depending on qualifications and experience

    Bargaining Unit TemporaryThis position is covered by a Public School Employees bargaining union. New employees are eligible for membership under the current collective bargaining agreement at 350 hours of employment.
