PACU Registered Nurse – Contract Opportunity
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 13 weeks (with likelihood of extension)
Shift: 40 Hours/Wk. - Day Shift
Misc: Facility does not allow block scheduling
Pay Rate: Up to $3,307.00/Wk.
About the Role:
The post-anesthesia care Unit (PACU) nurse cares for patients who have undergone anesthesia. The PACU nurse is responsible for observing and treating a patient post-operation and making sure that they safely awaken from anesthesia. The PACU nurse must monitor vital signs and levels of consciousness to make sure that the sedation is wearing off properly, there are no adverse reactions occurring and patients are regaining consciousness.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide immediate post-operative care for patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring airway patency and hemodynamic stability.
• Monitor vital signs, pain levels, and neurological status; intervene promptly for any changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications, including pain management and antiemetics, per physician orders and facility protocols.
• Manage IV lines, oxygen therapy, and other post-surgical equipment.
• Collaborate with anesthesia providers and surgical teams to ensure safe patient transitions from OR to PACU and then to inpatient units or discharge.
• Educate patients and families on post-operative care, pain management, and discharge instructions.
• Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EMR system.
• Respond to emergencies such as airway compromise or adverse reactions to anesthesia with appropriate interventions.
Qualifications:
+ Active MA RN license (required at submission).
+ Minimum 2 years of recent PACU experience.
+ BLS, ACLS and PALS certification (required).
+ EPIC experience highly preferred.
