    UPMC Hamot is hiring an Expert Professional Staff Nurse to join our fast paced, team orientated Labor & Delivery unit in the Women's Hospital!

     

    This position is full-time, rotating day and night shifts. Occasional weekends, holidays, and on-call hours required.

    Sign-On Bonus Details (Full-Time status)

    * $15,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over one year of experience

    + Up to five and a half weeks of Paid Time Off annually, plus seven paid holidays each year

    Purpose: The Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert is a Registered Nurse, a member of the care delivery team, and responsible for seeking opportunities to assist in changing practice through process improvement. The Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

    + Maintains thorough documentation to support caregiver communication.

    + Builds compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

    + Fosters a healthy workplace culture, demonstrating cultural awareness and addressing workplace issues.

    + Leads or participates in teams driving innovation in care and workforce well-being.

    + Performs duties in alignment with system-wide competencies and as assigned.

    + Minimum of 4 years of nursing experience required.

    + BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) is required.

    + Must complete an annual professional contribution aligned with department, hospital, or system goals and approved by the Unit Director.

    + UPMC-approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained.

    + Certification not required if the nurse holds a Master's in Nursing or a DNP.

    + A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for certification if the nurse holds a BSN.

    + Must demonstrate age-specific care knowledge and skills appropriate to assigned unit.

    + Must understand growth and development principles across the lifespan and assess patient needs accordingly.

    + Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on annual Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluations.

    + Ability to build and maintain positive, caring relationships with all levels of staff, patients, and families.

    + Must be able to work effectively in complex environments with shifting priorities and specialized equipment.

    + Requires exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

    + Must demonstrate leadership in applying the nursing process and guiding others.

    + Physical requirements include mobility, manual dexterity, and stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

    + Registered Nurse (RN) current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.

    *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
