The MSL Head, Medical Science Liaison Head in Oncology leads a large and multi-level organization of highly qualified MSLs, and Field Directors to provide fair balanced and objective scientific information and education to health care professionals and to internal partners as required by scientific and business needs. This position requires the MSL Head to set and implement the vision for a fast growing organization while also effectively collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders.
The MSL Head is responsible for leading an Oncology Medical Science Liaison (MSL) national organization of MSLs and Field Directors, in providing scientific, research, and educational support to health care professionals and internal partners related to the current and future Janssen Oncology products as required by scientific and buisines needs. The MSL head will also set and implement the vision for the organization and TA field strategy while also collaborating closely across the value stream of internal and external stakeholders.
The primary role of the MSL Head is to set organizational strategy for their disease area and national organization and implement their strategic vision. They will also provide support, coaching and development to Field Directors utilizing the compency model, routine feedback, and Leadership concept coaching. The MSL Head will also provide coaching, along with development assessment and guidance for the MSLs within their organization.
+ The MSL Head will lead the development and execution of strategies for the engagement of opinion leaders (nation, regional, and local) and community practitioners to support the Oncology organization. The MSL Head will oversee the tactical execution to ensure field teams are delivering timely and impactful data communication to external stakeholders in accordance with current regulatory and health care compliance guidelines.
+ The MSL Head will collaborate with the Therapeutic Area Lead and work closely with GCO, R&D, and Global Medical partners to develop and execute field-based strategies to support the Oncology research and collaboration strategies
+ The MSL Head is responsible for building a qualified and diverse organization through providing Field Director coaching and support in the recruiting and hiring process. In addition, the MSL Head is responsible for people development and talent retention by providing mentorships, career coaching, motivation and inspiration.
+ The MSL Head is a member of disease area leadership teams (GMAT, DAS) and is responsible for understanding the compound development plans, orgainizational priorities and timelines, and budgeting and staffing models for business planning for each compound.
+ The MSL Head is responsible for understanding, building and managing external aliance partners as they relate to field based medical affairs. This includes understanding legal, privacy, and compliance guardrails along with building an effective collaborative strategy for HCP engagement.
+ The MSL Head will maintain an effective collaborative relationship with Sr. Leadership within their cross functional tumor team. This would include National Sales Director, Group Product Director, Director of Marketing, National OCE Director, National KAM Director, Director of Sales Training, National TLL Director, and other Sr. Leaders
In this exciting role, the MSL Head is responsible for:
Strategy & Leadership:
+ Define and implement a vision for the Janssen Oncology (Solid Tumor or Hematology) MSL teams that interface with US academic and community stakeholders
+ Perform FTE and budget needs assessments to strategically build organizational growth model
+ Develop innovative strategies for stakeholder interactions that result in mutually beneficial relationships through medical insights, advisory boards, and other customer engagement meetings
+ Develop and execute MSL launch strategies for new products and line extensions
+ Ensure optimal territory plans are established and executed to meet business needs and maintain relationships with local stakeholders
+ Implement systems and tools to support performance analysis, customer interaction reporting, and account planning to ensure optimal performance
+ Collaborate with internal business partners (Medical, Communications, Commercial, GMA, etc.) to ensure field teams are capable of delivering on business objectives and supporting evidence generation needs across the portfolio
+ Facilitating MSL team support of evidence generation (company-sponsored trials, investigator-initiated studies, registries) in collaboration with USMA and GCO for early and late stage development products
+ Lead the strategic development and implementation of disease-related and asset field strategies of the Oncology MSL team.
+ Monitor and anticipate the changing therapeutic and healthcare environment impacting opinion leaders and other HCP’s understanding of our products’ data.
+ With a high level of scientific acumen, identify initiative opportunities to address OL and other HCP’s educational gaps and research opportunities.
+ Synthesize MSL applicable scientific information (e.g., basic science, clinical trial and real world evidence) to lead the development of the educational materials/communication tools, and champion the regulatory/legal/HCC approvals.
+ Identify research opportunities for the MSL team and partner with the R&D and Medical Affairs teams to develop a MSL support plan.
+ Responsible for resource allocation within the Therapeutic Area MSL team
+ Point of contact and key partnering responsibility with the functional leaders of clinical R&D, MA trial team /Medical / Marketing and HCC/Legal
+ Provide scientific leadership and support to the Medical Affairs Department on a variety of projects and programs.
People Development:
+ Responsible for the management of a national Oncology MSL team including:
+ Ensure that team functions according to the business plan and company directives
+ Conduct performance coaching discussions with Field Director/People Leaders;
+ Provide oversight responsibility for team’s training and development
+ Ensure team optimal capacity, field activity level, and field metrics.
+ Manages the team through special projects and cross functional support activities
+ The MSL Head is responsible to providing support to Field Directors to ensure the recruiting and hiring of a qualified and diverse work force and to insure the retention of team members through development, motivation and inspiration.
+ Provide career and succession planning in support of staff reaching their highest potential.

+ Build a strategy to attract and hire experienced talent to support the growing portfolio

+ Provide coaching to people leaders to inspire teams and provide support with personnel challenges
+ Build a culture of collaboration and candor where diverse perspectives are embraced
+ Build MSL scientific acumen for new disease state, marketed, and pipeline products
•The base pay range for this position is $182-315k USD.
The expected base pay range for this position is $182K - $315K. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
+ Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees and/or eligible dependents are eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

+ Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
+ Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
+ Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
+ Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
+ Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
+ Condolence Leave – 30 days for an immediate family member: 5 days for an extended family member
+ Caregiver Leave – 10 days
+ Volunteer Leave – 4 days
+ Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours
