Summary This position is located at Departmental Offices, within the Management CFO - Treasury Operations. As an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, you will be responsible for installing, recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, and repairing, modifying and relocating equipment on various special-purpose air conditioning and heating units and/or systems that are frequently modified to provide specific and critical climatic conditions occurring in the Main Treasury and Treasury Annex Buildings. Responsibilities The following are the duties of this position at the WG-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Performs preventive maintenance to all types of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment, such as oiling fan bearings and ensuring proper oil level in air compressor crankcases. Inspects equipment to detect worn or damaged parts, tests for refrigerant leaks and proper functioning of controls, and proper operation of heating and air conditioning. Observes and tests for proper operation of refrigerant cycle for cooling, and diagnoses, tests and locates malfunctions on all types of heating and complex air conditioning equipment. Assures proper operation, maintenance, and major repair of all refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and ventilating equipment in the Main Treasury and Treasury Annex Buildings. Fabricates, installs, and maintains complex, specialized sheet metal and ducts, which involves dismantling the equipment and cleaning all component parts, examining for wear and damage, replacing parts and repairing deficiencies of compressors, condensers, evaporators, seals expansion or pressure valves, capillary tubes and pressure or thermostatic controls, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Physical Requirements: The work requires extensive walking and bending, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, working in overhead or in tight areas, and frequently stooping, stretching, kneeling and reaching. Work requires visits to construction sites, machine rooms, and grounds, AND you must show in your experience in online application that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Key Requirements: Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. A one-year probationary period may be required. Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. All new hires will be required to comply with federal ethics laws. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
