    We're currently seeking an Improvement Specialist to become part of our dynamic team at Forbes Tower. This role offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing you to contribute both onsite and remotely, Monday through Friday.

     

    This position is within the value-based care department of the HSD Operations Division and is responsible for advancing the goals of the Accelerating Excellence initiatives on a system and departmental level. The improvement specialist will work collaboratively with staff and leadership to design and implement improvements and innovations at UPMC. To achieve defined outcomes, the improvement specialist engenders commitment, fosters cultural changes, disseminates information and provides support for behavioral and process changes. The overarching focus of the improvement specialists' work is patient centered, staff vitality, process efficiency and waste reduction and safe and reliable patient care.

    Responsibilities:

    Lead complex improvement initiatives to drive enterprise-wide performance enhancements

    + Lead complex improvement initiatives to drive enterprise-wide performance enhancements

    + Applies proven improvement techniques and high reliability principles such as current state assessments, problem identification, data analysis, deference to expertise, and sensitivity to operational awareness to drive project success

    + Effectively coordinates the assessment of current operational processes at various UPMC entities with multi-disciplinary teams

    + Applies project management principles such as charter development, work plans, timeline management etc. to effectively track progress of work

    + Assesses institutional/departmental readiness and identifies strategies to achieve goals

    + Defines and tracks key performance indicators to measure impact of improvement initiatives

    + Maintains accountability for ongoing self-development activities, especially related to presentation facilitation, change management and application of quality improvement activities

    + Effectively communicates project related progress or barriers to work teams, staff, managers and administrators throughout the organization and UPMC Health System

    + Establishes feedback mechanisms to ensure continuous learning and adaptation across teams

    + Measures and utilizes varied approaches and data streams to analyze and interpret data

    + Leads and engages teams across the enterprise and interacts with all levels of executives

    + Partners with all system leaders to implement and deploy system and local change

    + When assigned, completes special projects and performs other related duties according to agree upon goals and parameters

    + Represents UPMC in regional and national forums as appropriate

    + Bachelor's degree in nursing, Business Administration or related field required at time of hire/transfer, master's degree in business administration preferred.

    + Five years of related experience required

    + Knowledge of information systems and process improvement techniques.

    + Must be able to demonstrate skills to understand and interpret data.

    + Experience with value-based care programs is a plus.

    + Experience in ambulatory care settings is a plus.

    Special Skills and Abilities Required:

    + Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

    + Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

    + Exemplary critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

    + Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others. Mobility and visual manual dexterity.

    + Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + UPMC approved national certification preferred
