    I. Job Summary

     

    The Senior Director, Supply Chain leads all aspects of strategic sourcing, category management, procurement operations, and supplier relationship management across approximately $3 billion in annual addressable spend. This executive role drives enterprise-wide cost savings, risk reduction, operational efficiency, and supplier performance improvement while enabling long-term value creation and supporting Waste Management’s growth objectives.

     

    The Senior Director will oversee a distributed organization of 3 direct reports and 40 professionals across the U.S. and Canada. This leader is responsible for implementing best-in-class procurement systems, driving consistency and compliance, developing strategic supplier partnerships, and fostering a culture of innovation and accountability across the function.

     

    II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

    • Develop and execute enterprise sourcing and category strategies delivering measurable cost savings and operational efficiency.

    • Lead and mentor a national team of procurement and sourcing professionals, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and financial goals.

    • Oversee enterprise procurement operations and systems (including Coupa, PDI Fuel, Enel Energy, Card Services) managing 3M+ annual transactions.

    • Establish standardized policies, procedures, and governance models across procurement functions.

    • Negotiate, execute, and manage high-value, complex contracts mitigating operational and financial risk.

    • Strengthen supplier relationships to drive innovation, quality, sustainability, and performance.

    • Collaborate with executive leadership, Legal, Finance, and Operations to ensure sourcing strategies support business objectives.

    • Lead transformation initiatives, including M&A integrations, system modernization, and supplier optimization programs.

    • Champion leadership development, employee engagement, and continuous improvement within the supply chain organization.

    Stakeholder Engagement: Strengthen relationships across the enterprise to drive collaboration and adoption of procurement best practices.

    • Annual Cost Savings: $40–60 million through sourcing initiatives

    • Spend Under Management: ≥ 95% of addressable spend

    • Supplier Performance: ≥ 90% on-time, quality, and service compliance

    • Supplier Consolidation: 10–15% reduction in unmanaged vendor base annually

    • Contract Compliance: ≥ 98% adherence across business units

    • Procurement Cycle Time: ≤ 30 days from requisition to PO

    • Stakeholder Satisfaction: ≥ 90% satisfaction rating

    • Employee Engagement: ≥ 85% favorable rating

    • Sustainable Sourcing: 20%+ of spend with certified sustainable suppliers

    III. Qualifications

     

    The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

     

    Must live and work in the US.

     

    A. Certifications

    • Six Sigma, Lean, or equivalent supply chain certification preferred.

    B. Skills & Competencies

    • Demonstrated expertise in large-scale sourcing and supplier management.

    • Strong business acumen and financial analysis skills.

    • Proven success in developing and executing category strategies.

    • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.

    • Experience with ERP and procurement systems integration.

    • Leadership presence, strategic agility, and change management capability.

    • Travel: Up to 30%.

    C. Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, or related field required; MBA preferred.

    D. Work Experience

    • Minimum 15 years in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain leadership with at least 5 years in a senior management role.

    The expected base pay range for this position across the U.S. is $185220 - $250110. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
