Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a remote Software Engineering Manager for a 12+ month contract to lead the development of a backend system. In this role, you will oversee a team of 6–8 senior to principal engineers on a fully distributed team. Responsibilities will include:

Morning Standup & Planning

• Lead daily standups to review progress, blockers, and priorities.

• Coordinate with product managers and cross-functional teams to align backend deliverables with sprint goals.

• Review and adjust sprint boards (e.g., Jira) to ensure tasks are properly scoped and assigned.

Technical Oversight & Architecture

• Guide the team in designing scalable backend systems, microservices, and APIs.

• Review pull requests for code quality, performance, and security.

• Collaborate with senior engineers to define and evolve architectural patterns and technical standards.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Conduct regular 1:1s to support career development, provide feedback, and address concerns.

• Mentor engineers on technical growth, problem-solving, and agile best practices.

• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Project & Delivery Management

• Track sprint progress and ensure timely delivery of backend features and infrastructure improvements.

• Proactively identify risks and remove blockers to keep projects on track.

• Communicate status updates and technical decisions to stakeholders.

Collaboration & Cross-Team Alignment

• Partner with frontend, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment.

• Participate in sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming sessions.

• Align backend priorities with business objectives and customer needs.

Operational Excellence

• Monitor system performance, reliability, and scalability.

• Lead incident response and root cause analysis for backend issues.

• Drive automation and CI/CD improvements to streamline development workflows.

Compensation:

$85/hr -$94.11/hr.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Skills and Requirements

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience of software engineering leadership, with a proven track record of building and maintaining scalable, production-ready systems.

• Knowledge of backend technology like TypeScript and Node.js.

• Experience designing and overseeing microservices and/or event-based architectures.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects across teams, owning the full development lifecycle from planning to delivery.

• Knowledge and experience with Scum agile ceremonies. • Knowledge of EHR or medical billing is strong plus
