Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a full-time Shipyard HVAC Engineer to create the Detail Design documentation using the functional design documentation previously developed for the various HVAC systems for the ship design project to which they are assigned. In fulfilling this function they are to develop ship production related deliverables (i.e. production drawings and manufacturing workpacks) and exhibit the capability to assist Manufacturing in the resolution of production related issues. They are to assist the Lead HVAC Engineer in developing a cost effective Detail Design.
Shipyard HVAC Engineer - Responsibilities
Resource Management as related to the project he/ she has been assigned to.
Complete delivery quality documentation (and tasks) on time and budget to shipyard and Project Customers. This involves a natural evolution of the design process where the Designer must be able to evaluate the Functional Design Documentation and transform it
Production Drawings and workpacks.
Develop HVAC systems routing in 3D model
Complete interference checking and assist in resolving conflicts with all engineering disciplines
Drawings (Arrangement and Detail Drawings, hotwork drawings)
Assess raw material needs and purchase as required
HVAC System Work Packs
Assist HVAC Engineers in HVAC component selections (in accordance with contract requirements)
Interface with Mfg personnel and resolve production issues
Develop Change Paper as required to support the process
Develop Purchase Specifications
Develop Test Procedures
Assist in the development of the project HVAC Engineering Team (as requested by the Lead HVAC Engineer)
Participate in kickoff meeting to review project objectives and review project requirements
Participate in Specification review
Participate in regular project staff meetings
Review applicable QMS procedures with project team on a regular basis.
Assist the Lead HVAC Engineer in developing (primarily reviewing) a Project based documentation development schedules. Provide input as requested.
Drawing Schedule in accordance with mfg work pack schedule (as developed by shipyard’s Production Control Department).
Manufacturing Work pack release schedule.

Skills and Requirements
Education/Certification Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 6 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence.
This requirement can also be met with an Associate’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and 8 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence, or a High School Diploma or GED and 9 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence.
Supervisory experience desired.
Six Sigma or LEAN training desired.
Must have experience with naval systems, proven by verifiable and specific work experience, technical publication, or patent issue.
Must have a working knowledge of standard shipbuilding rules and regulations, as well as the associated regulatory agencies and the review & approval process.
Must have current computer skills relevant to the field of competence.
Be familiar with EPLA or ETAP
Strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills
Strong 3D AutoCAD Modeling and processing skills comprised of the following:
Multiple layout drawings
100+ tab drawings
Viewport manipulation
Layer management
3-D clipping
Solids creation / manipulation
Blocks
Must have ability to work within schedule and budget restraints.
Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.
A basic Earned Value Management System competency is a bonus
Process Improvement Specialist knowledge and experience beneficial.
Experience leading individuals and teams beneficial
