Responsibilities

+ Read and interpret prescriptions, obtain proper medication in the proper strength and dosage form.

+ Determine proper amounts and counts, pours or measures the medication.

+ Affix proper labels and record required data on Pharmacy’s copy of prescription order.

+ Dispense medication in ambulatory care or discharge situations (after a final check by Pharmacist).

+ Independently fills first dose medications, missing doses, and unit dose carts for inpatient areas without routine secondary review.

+ Document items dispensed in the unit dose computer package.

+ Prepare IV admixtures.

+ Assist with inventory management.

+ Provide patient education on pharmacy topics such as requesting refills, drug information sheets, and relaying questions to the Pharmacist.

+ Review, prepares, and fills physician orders.

+ Perform pharmacy checks on sterile orders, bulk drug orders, and replenishing of medical carts.

+ Assist in conducting medication storage area inspections.

+ Assures safe handling procedures for hazardous drugs.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.

+ Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential required.

+ 2–4 years of pharmacy technician experience, including clinical support functions.

+ Familiarity with IHS pharmacy systems and federal pharmacy regulations.

Estimated Salary/Wage

USD $22.58/Hr. Up to USD $28.00/Hr.
