Requirements / Qualifications

Basic Functions: Organizes and instructs students in reading and/or language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, physical education, art, music and other assigned areas of the curriculum, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees. Promotes close working relationships with staff, students and parents. Teacher is under the direct supervision of the site principal or designee. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Education Required: • Bachelor’s Degree • Valid California Science Teaching Credential or Authorization in Science • EL Authorization or equivalent • In lieu of a Science teaching credential, the district will assist you in applying for a Teaching Permit for Statutory Leave (TPSL) through CTC in Biological Science or Foundational Science if you meet the following: - A degree major in the subject area or at least 18 semester units, or 9 upper division semester units, of course work in the subject to be listed on the permit. - For a permit in one of the science subjects, at least nine semester units must be in the specific science area. For a permit in Foundational-Level General Science, an individual has two options. First is to verify a bachelor’s or higher degree in science. This includes biological science, geoscience, physics, and science areas that fall within these broad categories such as anatomy, earth science, and oceanography. This does not include a degree in health science. Second is to verify 18 semester units (or nine upper division semester units) across the four science areas of biological science, chemistry, geosciences, and physics. A minimum of one course in each of the four areas is required. - Please include all transcripts including community college, bachelor's and any post-baccalaureate transcripts. Experience: • One year of successful teaching experience in an education setting is preferred.
