What You'll Do
We’re looking for a Director of Product Strategy to join our Individual Solutions product team. In this role, you’ll build the ongoing vision and future strategy for three primary solutions supporting retirement plan participants with both education and advice services. These include onsite and virtual education, plus a concierge service for plan roll-ins of external 401(k) assets to the participant’s current employer-sponsored retirement plan held with Principal. In addition, you will be accountable for our Distribution Consulting service, which has been designed for former participants experiencing a separation from their employer. This offer includes specific recommendations regarding the participant’s retirement plan assets, including whether remaining in their retirement plan or rolling the assets over to an IRA account are in their best interest.
You will be accountable to complete discovery efforts with partners, develop a point-of-view on the best step forward, build detailed roadmaps, requirements, user stories, and tickets to drive execution and progress to goals within and across these services. In this role, you’ll collaborate with several internal partners including sales, technology, marketing, client services, and operations teams, to bring your vision to life for these product lines. You’ll bring curiosity, open-mindedness, and a passion for solving customer and business problems, while delivering across the full product lifecycle—from discovery to delivery and ongoing iteration.

+ Collaboration with business partners to create strong relationships and develop a deep understanding of the customer and business needs equally.
+ Development of a product point-of-view for business prioritization efforts, and execution plans
+ Understanding the market for these services and providing creative input on new product/service ideas that deliver on business goals.
+ Communicating the vision, goals and objectivesfor each service to build line of sight for all involved internal staff, business teams, and partners in workplace services and retirement solutions (WSRS).
+ Ensuring proper governance and oversight is in place for each service and that necessary approvals for changes are completed in a timely manner.
+ Make effective decisions with business resources to deliver KPIs, OKRs, and appropriate financial metrics
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
+ Experience developing forward-looking, multi-year product strategy & roadmaps based upon a robust understanding of internal & external clients, competitive intelligence & regulatory trends.
+ Experience developing strategy including defining, delivering, observing, and refining digital products.
Who You Are
+ MBA or related graduate degree with finance/economics emphasis and Certified Financial Analyst designation preferred and 10+ years of investment/product experience required.
+ Deep product management experience required.
+ Requires strong understanding of retirement plan products, education services available to plan participants, and how to provide advice to this audience as well.
+ Must be able to be a broad strategic thinker while also demonstrating superior tactical product management capabilities.
+ Excellent communication and presentation skills combined with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships is required.
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$137000 - $185000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
