    Introduction

Research Scientists at IBM drive the leading edge of quantum computing technologies with the industry’s most advanced hardware and software. Join an elite team of researchers and engineers building a path towards scalable fault tolerant quantum computation.

    Your role and responsibilities

IBM Quantum is hiring a Research Scientist to contribute to the development of advanced, high-performance digital and mixed-signal ASICs in advanced nodes for exploratory applications. We focus on circuit designs targeting the development of differentiated solutions for a range of communication and computation challenges, including the creation of CMOS-based electronics for quantum computing applications. Successful applicants will have demonstrated experience in CMOS digital integrated circuit design, including logic design, logic synthesis, and verification. In this role, you may be tasked with developing RTL, performing logic synthesis, developing testbenches, and/or integration of designs incorporating digital and analog macros. You will be involved in all aspects of design projects from concept and IC architecture exploration / definition to system integration to bring up and test; demonstrated hands-on lab skills are therefore important. In addition, background in communication theory, digital signal processing, and / or custom accelerator design would be advantageous.

    Required technical and professional expertise

Degree: Master’s degree or equivalent experience.

    - Digital Circuit Design: A strong foundation in digital design, including using EDA tools for digital logic synthesis, floor planning, place-and-route, and static timing analysis. (2 years).

    - CMOS implementation: Demonstrated expertise through successful implementation digital and/or mixed-signal designs in deep submicron CMOS technology (2 years).

    - EDA: A thorough knowledge of at least one commercial EDA digital IC design framework (2 years).

    Preferred technical and professional experience

    Degree: Doctorate.

    - Custom and/or standard cell-based digital circuit design: Proficiency in custom and/or standard cell-based digital circuit design and implementation in deep submicron technology (2 years).

    - Design Integration: Chip integration experience leveraging mixed-signal analog-on-top (AoT) or digital-on-top (DoT) flows.

    - Digital signal processing and/or accelerator design: Experience in the design, implementation, and demonstration of digital signal processing algorithms and/or custom accelerators in integrated CMOS technologies.

    - Programming Skills: Candidates with strong programming skills in commonly used languages (2 years).

    - Communication and collaboration skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are highly valued for effective collaboration within the team. A track record of successful participation in multi-disciplinary research and development projects is a plus.
