    Job Description

    TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST CIVIL SERVICE LIST.

    DOT’s Coordinated Street Furniture Franchise (CSFF) unit is responsible for the management, planning and oversight of over 3,500+ street furniture structures (bus/bike shelters, newsstands and public toilets). The agency has begun installing the first of 300 new bus shelters across the city, with the initial batch of 100 shelters to be installed by next summer. The new shelters represent the first major expansion in years. NYC DOT is choosing new shelter locations based on a variety of factors, including ridership, equitable distribution, and recent investment in bus stops or routes.

     

    The Deputy Director will be responsible for assisting the unit Director in providing direction and oversight of our street furniture contractor, JCDecaux, review and analyze bus shelter requests, street furniture site plans, providing detailed instructions to ensure that all installations meet siting criteria including satisfactory restoration of pavement and/or surrounding sidewalk, ensuring a timely bus shelter build-out. The Deputy Director will receive and evaluate newsstand applications, investigate newsstand locations; manage inspection team, oversee and coordinate the inspections of 3,500+ street furniture structures, 14,000+ bikes & 750+ bike share stations, and surrounding sidewalks, streets and paved areas throughout the five boroughs. The Deputy Director will also track and maintain all CSFF structures by using a computerized database; process 311 complaints/street furniture requests, submit complaints/maintenance directives to street furniture contractor, via email and their computer program, Illico, prepares a weekly operations report to monitor all street furniture activity; coordinates with street furniture contractor, borough commissioners and city agencies to address related street furniture concerns and issues; perform related duties.

    TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST - 22316

    Qualifications

    1. A master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related physical and social science fields; or

    2. A baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience performing technical work on roadway transportation and traffic studies and area-wide traffic programs; or

    3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above; or

    4. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above; or

    5. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above.

    SPECIAL NOTE:

    In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements above:

    To be assigned to Assignment Level II, the candidate must have an additional year of experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" listed under "2" above.

     

    To be assigned to Assignment Level III, the candidate must have an additional two years of experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" listed under "2" above.
