    Description:

    The **Community** **Life Aide** at **The Oaks** in Muskegon, MI, is part of the senior community team responsible for enhancing residents' quality of life through engagement in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities. Key responsibilities include assisting in planning and implementing daily activities tailored to the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of residents, especially those in long-term care settings. This role requires adapting activities to residents' individual capabilities and interests to ensure inclusivity and participation.

    Responsibilities:

    Plan and Implement Activities:

    + Assist the Activities Director in creating and executing a wide variety of recreational activities tailored to residents’ physical, emotional, and cognitive needs (e.g., arts and crafts, games, music therapy, exercise classes, and social events).

    Resident Engagement:

    + Encourage and support resident participation in activities, adjusting activities to individual abilities and interests.

    + Offer companionship and personal attention to residents to enhance their social well-being.

    Documentation:

    + Maintain accurate records of resident participation and progress in activities.

    + Report any changes in resident behavior, mood, or participation to the Activities Director or nursing staff.

    Adapt Activities for Individual Needs:

    + Modify activities to accommodate residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities, including those with dementia or mobility issues.

    Communication with Family and Staff:

    + Communicate activity schedules and upcoming events to residents, family members, and staff.

    + Collaborate with nursing and care staff to ensure activities align with residents' care plans.

    Event Setup and Breakdown:

    + Assist with the preparation and cleanup of activity spaces, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.

    + Manage the organization of supplies, decorations, and any equipment needed for activities.

    Resident Transportation and Assistance:

    + Help transport residents to and from activity areas, ensuring safety and comfort.

    + Assist residents with physical tasks during activities when needed (e.g., helping them with craft supplies or ensuring they are comfortable in seating).

    Safety and Well-being:

    + Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe manner and adhere to health and safety regulations.

    + Be attentive to residents' health conditions and report any concerns to appropriate personnel.

    Promote Social Interaction:

    + Foster a sense of community and social interaction among residents through group activities and one-on-one engagement.

    Feedback and Program Improvement:

    + Gather feedback from residents about their enjoyment and engagement in activities.

    + Suggest new ideas for programs and activities based on resident preferences and feedback.

    Qualifications:

    + **Education:** High school diploma or equivalent; some positions may prefer or require certification in activities coordination (e.g., Certified Activity Professional – CAP).

    + **Experience:** Experience in elderly care, or activities planning is often preferred. Knowledge of therapeutic recreational programs and experience working with dementia patients may be a plus.

    + **Skills:**

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    + Ability to work with individuals of varying cognitive and physical abilities.

    + Creative, energetic, and patient with a compassionate nature.

    + Basic knowledge of therapeutic recreational activities and their benefits.

    + Ability to work in a team and adapt to changing environments.

    Physical Requirements:

    + Ability to lift and move equipment or assist residents as needed.

    + Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.

    + Physical stamina to assist in activity facilitation and resident transportation.
