Overview
* Performs Computed Tomography procedures. Reviews medical record for patient history and pertinent information. Reviews requisition with physician. Administers contrast material, according to physician's request, by means of an existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and placing IV line; recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reaction.
* Determines most suitable patient position for optimum imaging, protocol and patient comfort. Uses all equipment properly and in a manner that minimizes hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients. Follows ALARA principles. Evaluates images and sends to PACS. Reviews data on scanner and in PACS. Performs multi-plane reconstruction, reformats and 3D according to protocol.
* Reviews studies for overall quality. Identifies and highlights any unexpected findings not included in the initial exam request and promptly notifies the radiologist.
* Organizes daily work schedule and responds to emergencies as they occur.
* Performs daily calibration check on equipment; cleans and performs minor maintenance procedures. Logs problems and usage; alerts Team Leader as appropriate. Orders and maintains supplies.
* Instructs medical staff and technologists in unit's operations, as necessary.
* Participates in continuing education. Trains with IV team prior to performing venous punctures.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Responsibilities
* Performs computerized axial tomography procedures. Reviews medical record for patient history and pertinent information. Reviews requisition with physician. Transfers patient to scan room; explains procedure and positions according to protocol. Administers contrast material, according to physician's request, by means of an existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and placing IV line; recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reaction. Selects proper technique/protocol to obtain optimal data; performs scan. Evaluates images and send to PACS.
* Scans and reviews data on disk; performs multi-plane reconstruction. Performs archive function. Selects and photographs pertinent data and forwards to physician.
* Reviews studies for overall quality. Illuminates any problems noted which were not part of initial exam. Alerts Radiologist.
* Organizes daily work schedule and responds to emergencies as they occur.
* Performs daily calibration check on equipment; cleans and performs minor maintenance procedures. Logs problems and usage; alerts Team Leader as appropriate. Maintains wall units and cord. Orders and maintains supplies.
* Instructs medical staff and technologists in unit's operations, as necessary.
* Participates in continuing education. Trains with IV team prior to performing venous punctures.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
* Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology with 1 year of experience preferred.
Required Licensure/Certifications
- Registered with the ARRT Radiologic Technologist - Radiography (RT - R) .
- Licensed by the Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy in the state of New Hampshire.
- BLS required within 30 days.
