    JOB SUMMARY

    Under supervision, the High School Intern Utility Operations Trainee is responsible for supporting routine activities in an intern/trainee capacity while gaining continuous knowledge of utility systems and equipment as assigned.

    LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

    • Responsibilities are varied but related to primary focus of job area. May work outside area of assigned duties. Routine duties based on detailed instruction. Works under direct supervision. Responds to routine questions and problems within standards and guides. Refers complex issues to higher levels.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Complete all safety training and apply safety principles

    • Remain motivated to continue to learn new systems and skills for continuation of self-improvement.

    • Review standard operating procedures (SOPs)

    • Apply on the job training and observations to assigned tasks

    • Observe experienced members in performing their assigned work

    • Learn utility systems fundamentals.

    • All other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • High School student actively enrolled and participating at a satisfactory level in a technical education program at Francis Tuttle Technology Center.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • May require travel.

    • Required to work in a multi-craft crew including Mechanics, Electricians, Instrument & Controls Technicians, etc. who work together to support operations of the utility.

    • May be required to cross-train in various crafts and operations departments at various times of the year.

    • May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.

    • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.

    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

    • Ability to read, interpret and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.

    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively including active listening.

    • Ability to clearly write accurate and routine descriptions of work performed.

    • Organizational skills.

    • Critical Thinking, applying logic and analysis

    • Required Certifications/Licensures:(Valid Driver’s License)
