Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Licensed Pharmacist, Grade 25, position in the Office of the Medical Director, Bureau of Health Services (BHS). The intent of this position it to provide non-dispensing clinical work in a non-traditional office setting. As a Pharmacist, you must be eligible to provision pharmaceutical care, including the review, dispensing, and monitoring of inpatient and outpatient medications. You must also be eligible to prepare IV admixtures, providing drug information, conducting patient and family medication counseling sessions, supervising pharmacy aides, and participating in pharmacy and facility wide performance improvement activities. These duties could assigned very infrequently during time spent at an OMH facility during an emergency or while working on an onsite implementation. An incumbent in this position will perform a wide variety of essential duties and functions within the Bureau of Health Services, working with Pharmacy leadership, related to the pharmaceutical therapy across all domains of care, to include by not limited to creating/supporting/maintaining clinical/administrative pharmacy initiatives, both at our Central Office location and at the State operated inpatient psychiatric centers; support the Statewide OMH Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee meetings; aid in implementation/support of all statewide pharmacy related it projects; and aid in any other initiative at the direction of Pharmacy leadership. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following: •Polypharmacy reduction: engage with the PC pharmacists to reduce unnecessary medications during hospitalization and at discharge; •Develop a pharmacist directed medication reconciliation process for new admissions, transfers and pending discharged patients; •Create an educational program for PC clinical pharmacists to engage patients education regarding their pharmacy medication regimen. This program would equip our pharmacists with the training and tools needed to counsel patients with severe psychiatric illness to become sufficient in managing their medications at home;•Promote the integration of PC clinical pharmacists in the clinical treatment team;•Coordinate the P&T committee agenda and work with PC interns in the delivery of cogent presentations to the committee;•Assist the Director of Health Services or designee with implementation/maintenance of PYXIS in all of our PCs;•Keep the Director of Health Services or designee with pending critical medication shortages;•Support all Medicare Part D billing related needs at the direction of the Medicare Part D pharmacy manager and/or Director of Health Services/designee;•Design/implement/maintain clinical pharmacy initiatives to improve care;•Aid in implantation/support of all statewide pharmacy related IT projects; and,•Aid in any pharmacy related initiative at the direction of the Director of Health Services or designee.
Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS/Open Competitive Qualifications: Possession of a License and current registration to practice pharmacy in New York. Transfer Opportunity:Candidates must have permanent service as a Pharmacist, Grade 25, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the Grade 25 level.

For the duration of NY HELPS, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
